"An experienced performer, Brighton-based Diello has a beautifully smooth controlled, haunting voice."
(Kate Lewis - ACOUSTIC MAGAZINE - Sept 2009)"Paul Diello – has been compared to Eddie Izzard and Anthony and The Johnsons, that gives you a rough compass direction but Paul is actually entirely unique. He possesses a stunning vocal and song writing talent that has brought him a whole raft of fans many of whom have fallen in love with him via his self released debut album “The Last Green Bottle’. Hear his contribution to the SolarAid Compilation, you will not be disappointed" ( Eugenie Arrowsmith - THE BIG CHILL - July 2009)
"From the minute he walks onto stage, Paul engages you in his world of torment and wonder. During his Brighton album launch there were moments of sheer genius with each track providing something different for the audience, whether it be heart-rending raw emotion or rhythms that course through your body and make you get up and dance. Paul Diello is simply breathtaking – a must-see artist for 2009." (Briggy Smales – TV/RADIO PRESENTER – May 09)Paul Diello started performing in 1999 with an acoustic covers trio. Soon after, he and his brother Mike were picked up by the rock band 'Porcelain’. A year or so later they formed their own band using original material, having both written since they were young.
‘Shiseido Red’ started life as a rock band, but as time went on they decided their true sound was at its best acoustically. The brothers became renowned for their close harmonies and rhythmic and melodic style around Brighton and London: Venues including: The Komedia, Concorde 2, Joogleberry Playhouse; The Borderline, Camden Barfly and The Troubadour.
They also performed at various festivals and gave numerous live radio interviews and performances. One of Paul’s most memorable Shiseido highlights was supporting 'Texas' to a crowd of over 5,000 up at the Castle for the Arundel Festival. He has also enjoyed playing in some of the most exciting cities in the world, particularly Sydney, New York and Paris.
In 2007, classically trained violinist Tessa Gilles joined them, adding her own haunting and delicate vibe: In June 2008 Mike had to depart from ‘Shiseido Red’ due to other commitments but Paul, being inspired by and drawing comparison to amongst others, the likes of Tori Amos and Rufus Wainwright continued to write songs on piano and keyboard.
He now performs under his own name around old and new haunts, backed by a talented bunch of musician friends he has acquired along the way. Sometimes beginning with just his keyboard or piano Paul is joined by the members of his band, making for a varied and engaging experience for his audience.
Currently self managed and unsigned, Paul has recently completed his first solo album, ‘The Last Green Bottle’. Following a hugely popular launch to a sell out crowd at The Latest Bar, Brighton in April Paul went on to successfully stage The London Launch, held at The Troubadour, Earls Court in July.
In August he popped up to Herefordshire for a set on the Solar Aid Buskers Tent at the BIG CHILL festival and had an amazing time. "Our stage was up a hill and we could see the whole festival and the sun was beating down, it was really magical" Paul is honoured to have had a track from his album chosen for the Big Chill, SolarAid compilation CD.
At the end of August Paul flew up to play the last night of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival at the Assembly Rooms.
His recent autumn event was staged in his home town and 'A Night with Paul Diello and Friends', was a sell out success. With the stage set as his front room, he invited his band, along with some special guests to join him. During the set Briggy Smales, who hosted the evening, interviewed Paul giving the enthralled audience a chance to learn more about him in his own entertaining style. This unique experience was topped off with free Cupcakes during the interval! “Such a great night; the band and I are now excited about the forthcoming Christmas setâ€.
