About Me

I like to travel, experience and learn about other cultures, and meet new people. I studied biology and anthropology in university. I'm teaching English in Japan now for awhile. After that comes volunteer work and hopefully years of teaching in Africa. I love experiencing new things because those experiences change my everyday life. I seem to think about things I never once considered, and appreciate things I never knew I had. I love this feeling so I'll probably continue trying new things for many years to come. I'm married to my gal Shiho.

My Interests

Ive got a ton of interests. Basically anything to do with anthropology or other cultures can keep my academic and serious attention. I also love expressing my imagination or seeing others express theirs. This keeps me interested in sci fi movies and lots of video games and or cartoons. I mainly enjoy simulation games. Most are on computer or can be played on a tabletop. My favorite game of all is BattleTech. I also love old Nintendo. Mega Man, Contra, Adventure Island II, and of course Jackal. I have 2 websites, one about a Lego universe and the other set in the BattleTech universe. You can find em here, www.stridersstrikers.com/LegoEntrance www.stridersstrikers.com

I'd like to meet:

Cake lead singer/songwriter John McCrea, Michael J Fox, Bill Murray, lots of old friends(who I already keep in touch with by email!), people who despise either George Bush

Music:

Music is pretty important to me. Another great thing about traveling is you can hear so many different kinds of new music. I like a little bit of everything in music, techno, ambient, electronic, experimental, rock, pop, country, classical, jazz, and even opra. My favorite bands are Cake (from America) and Hooverphonic (from Belgium). Old Phil Collins, anything 80s, Air, Alex Lloyd, and a few others rank high on my list too.

Movies:

I like movies, mainly comedies, dramas, and science fiction films. My favorite movies are Raiders of the Lost Ark(the first Indiana Jones movie), Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Blade Runner, Jaws, and Boys Don't Cry. I also have a love for low budget failures. Most of these are similar to what's seen on Mystery Science Theater 3000, the American show in which a movie is viewed and made fun of through commentary. A few goodies in this category might include Mr T: The Toughest Man in The World, RobotJocks, or Abraxus: Guardian of the Universe.

Television:

I dont watch TV and now enjoy bragging that I don't even have one. However I enjoy such shows as Saturday Night Live, Northern Exposure, Quantum Leap, Wings, Seinfeld, Night Court, C.O.P.S. the cartoon, TMNT, Pee Wee's Playhouse, Gumby, G.I.Joe, Spiderman the 90s cartoon, X-Men the 90s cartoon, X Files, and a bunch of other animated series from TV.

Books:

My favorite book of all is Somerset Maugham's "The Razor's Edge". I also like Michael J Fox's book which I recently read. I sometimes read Old English and British literature like Beowulf, the Battle of Maldon, and Excalibur. I usually read plain old science fiction. Short stories are always good too, and I enjoy writing my own set in the BattleTech Universe.

Heroes:

not sure what to write here. does this mean people I admire? i really like comic books, so I have lots of favorite SUPERheroes. :D does that count? i suppose people I admire might include Ghandi, some of my old professors from university, and a number of my friends. but i dont think any of them are coming to rescue me anytime soon. :P
