About Me

My job is strength-training and conditioning. I work with athletes (primarily high school) and adults up to 75 years old. I hold the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S) certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. You cannot even sit for the CSCS exam without a college degree and many have advanced degrees. The strength coaches of almost any professional sports team will hold the CSCS certification. I have served as strength coach of a girls' high school soccer team. The CSCS certification is good, but I also practice what I preach. I train for strength rather than body building. I will explain the difference later.I do not limit my training philosophy to NSCA guidelines. Any knowledgable strength coach is aware that no one training philosophy is perfect. Each individual is different. Therefore, I study every strength training philosophy I can and merge them into my own philosophy. I attend seminars, read strength books, read strength journals, read a few select Internet sites daily, and view videos to stay updated on the latest strength-training information. Most of what I utilize will have significant scientific data to support it. The reason I say most, rather than all, is I also believe in the "data of the gym". By that, I mean there are certain techniques which individuals utilize which have produced results without having specific research to support the technique. Of course, you can also hear some completely wrong information from people in the gym. My job is to figure out what works and what does not.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

If you are interested in strength-training, I am located in the West Los Angeles/South Bay area. I train in a commercial gym but also do some in-home and private gym sessions. If you are a high school coach or athlete, I can design a program which fits your team needs. If you are the parent of a high-school athlete who would like to see your child reach his or her strength potential, I can help.If you are an adult who would like to move better and feel better, I work with adults in all age ranges (30-70somethings). I focus on functional strength and mobility with my non-athletic clients which means my programs will help you live your life better. Strength should be top priority for anyone over fifty since strength drops dramatically after fifty unless a strength-training program is implemented.Individual training is not cheap, but it is a great investment. One option is semi-private training where I train two or more people at once. Each person will pay less than a one-on-one session. This is also a good option for teams where I can train several athletes at once and each athlete pays signicantly less than a private session.I also have give a number of seminars on fitness and health in the Los Angeles area. I may be available to speak to your group on strength-training if our respective schedules allow.
