Fans of Texan Todd Fritsch know that this 27-year old burns the candle at both ends as he juggles a successful music career with his responsibilities on the family ranch. A working cowboy who helped run over 60,000 head of cattle through the family's operation in 2008, Todd also trains horses and dogs in what he laughingly calls his "spare time." For Fritsch, who now lives in Ledbetter TX, there is no "day" prefacing "job;" he's on the go 24/7. "I'm usually up by 5 or so," he says. "And my days are pretty jammed up till around 10 at night."
It's not a lifestyle that would seem to encourage other pursuits, but in the last several years, Todd has somehow managed to release two well-received albums (TODD FRITSCH and SAWDUST), and enjoyed several hit singles in the U.S. and abroad. He's appeared on radio and television, written dozens of songs, played honky tonks, festivals and fairs throughout Texas and in Europe, appeared in a movie, and toured the Caribbean (December 2007) to play for U.S. troops. Since 2005, Todd's schedule has been a mix of ranching and music that would leave most folks begging for mercy. But not Todd Fritsch - no sir, no way; he's lookin' for more.
Todd is a doer, so it's not surprising that when things weren't moving as quickly as he'd like with his music career, Fritsch put his boot down and made some changes. "I'm not somebody who'll keep doin' something the same way over and over without result," he says. "If it ain't workin', I'm gonna try a new way."
With a total restructuring of management, production and booking now complete, Todd's ready for the next step. "My last album SAWDUST (2007) did real well for me, and I'm proud of it," says the down-to-earth Fritsch. "I'm not knockin' the successes I've had to date, but five years from now I want to be playin' in front of 50,000 people and be 1 on Billboard's Country Chart. I've made some real good friends in Nashville who believe in me and the music that I make. I don't ever want to leave ranchin' behind," he says. "It's who I am; it's what keeps me real and in touch. But I want the music, too."
Fritsch is already stockpiling songs for an upcoming album, and has high hopes for his new alliances in Nashville. "We've got some great tunes that are still true to who I am," he says. "We're looking forward to gettin' back in the studio and seeing where that leads."
Where Todd's road might lead is anyone's guess, but so far, this real-world cowboy has accomplished much more than he ever dreamed possible- and far more than most people believed he could.
He has:
- released four albums to date - SIMPLE THINGS, AMERICAN COWBOY, TODD FRITSCH, SAWDUST
- performed at CMA Music Festival (2006, 2007)
- toured Belgium, France, Germany, Holland and Switzerland (2006, 2007)
- enjoyed a string of U.S. hits: "What's Wrong With Me", "Small Town Radio", "I Don't Live Here Anymore", "I Got Mexico", and a duet with Texas legend Gary P. Nunn, "Every Honky Tonkin' Hero (Has His Day)"
- topped the European Country Chart with "Small Town Radio", "Bob Wills Song" and "Texas Talkin' "
- shared the stage with Lee Ann Womack, Joe Nichols, Marty Stuart, Kevin Fowler, Cory Morrow and Cross Canadian Ragweed
- appeared in the full-length motion picture, PALO PINTO GOLD, starring Trent Willmon and Kinky Friedman (Summer 2008)
- been honored with his own chapter in the newly-published (Nov., 2008) HORSE COUNTRY: A CELEBRATION OF COUNTRY MUSIC AND THE LOVE OF HORSES
"Some folks look at my life and ask me how I could want anything more," Todd notes. "I figure, if I'm willin' to work for it, then I deserve to be the best that I can be at everything I do, not just for myself, but for my family, too."
It's a life approach that's served Todd well to this point, and it looks like it will take him - and his music - to the top.
