About Me

hmmmmm, what to say?... well, i'm ME. for better or for worse (hopefully for better these days). i mess with drums for a living. --yeah, that's actually how i pay my bills! i build them (Mlasko Quality Custom Drums -Since 1994, http://www.mlaskodrums.com or myspace.com/mlaskodrums -go ahead, order some; they're great!!!), fix them and tune them in recording studios and on some of the biggest stages in the world. i've toured with the likes of liz phair, the wallflowers, tori amos, yes, pearl jam, candlebox and others. anyhoo, to say i'm fairly well-traveled is a slight understatement. ;) i've also been 'around the block' as well as around the world, so don't try to pull the proverbial wool over me eyes! i play drums with a wide variety of folks too. drums, drums, drums... i keep to myself for the most part, but am more than friendly with folks that are good real people. fake people generally find me unfriendly. i like old things A LOT... i was prolly born at the wrong time, if that matters, which it doesn't... i've got a funny dog named hank and everyone loves him. i enjoy my motorbike and my old car. i relish the concept of "home" very, very much. i'd love to truly find it, wherever it may be. i'm a pretty damn good guy. pretty grounded, even though my life has been less than 'grounding' for a while now. i want to be a better person. i've gone thru serious heart-ache and i'm over it. i seem to learn all my lessons the hard way. been focusing on 'me' for a while now and i attempt to make what i can outa each day. always looking forward while conscious of what's behind me. anyway, i'm a fairly stereotypical capricorn who seems to be aging backwards. i am getting older though and i don't mind.
oh, and i proudly play zildjian cymbals exclusively! http://www.zildjian.com

My Interests

kustom culture, motorcycles, old drums and cymbals, old cars, bicycles, good music, sturdy old things & cool retro stuff in general, anything with excellent quality, tattoos, shooting and cleaning guns, genuinely kool people, unconventionally beautiful women that know who they are, what's real and what it takes to make a relationship (of any kind) really work and possibly (gasp!) last, good true friends (i'll pass on the fair-weather variety, thanks), good conversation, falling asleep to good music, candles, that rare and genuine true love (though these days i'll settle for mutual admiration)...

I'd like to meet:

ringo and paul, d.j. fontana, jerry lee lewis, scotty moore, geoff emerick, ethan johns, jon brion, some more quality time with l.m.jr. ... aside from fantasy-land, i'm always up for meeting cool genuine people, though they seem to be rare these days. real people make me quite happy, time-wasting fakers make me cuss. if you can't tell the truth and be upfront and real, leave me alone. seriously. you have been warned... :)
also, i don't want to be "friended" just because you play drums or are in a band. this is my personal myspace; try myspace.com/mlaskodrums --thanks.

Music:

rockabilly (any/all of it -this is an easy way to avoid listing tons of my fave bands/artists), elvis and sinatra on vinyl, beatles, stones, ryan adams, steve earle, pete droge, RAY LAMONTAGNE, KINGS OF LEON, superdrag, gbv, zep, reo, heart, ramones, old 97's/rhett, hank I & III, patsy, old country (modern pop country sucks balls/ass), cheap trick, neko case, crowded house, suppose i prolly have to like pearl jam (and i actually do), X, pretty much anything jon brion or ethan johns has anything to do with, the posies, elliot smith, raconteurs, stray cats, marvin gaye, the cult, U2, anything james jamerson played on... anything authentic, gritty, good and REAL. rootsy stuff more than modern stuff. modern music doesn't usually do it for me. i don't like the radio much unless it's the oldies station, i dunno... well, actually i do.

Movies:

sweeney todd, don't come knocking, paris texas, the constant gardener, the last of the mohicans, an inconvenient truth, any hitchcock, the illusionist, the world's fastest indian, narnia, v for vendetta, 300, walk the line, black snake moan, hollywoodland, black dahlia, little miss sunshine, sin city, x-men, night of the hunter, the rocketeer, the phantom, dr. strangelove, young frankenstein, the red violin, l.a. confidential, james bond, motorcycle diaries, spinal tap, the wild one, mars attacks, tales of the rat fink, what the bleep do we know?, the mummy, napolean dynamite/nacho libre kinda stuff too...

Television:

if i watch tv, it's usually something like the simpsons, daily show, iron chef, home-repair stuff, american chopper or biker build-off (esp. indian larry re-runs), recently watched 'band of brothers' on dvd, need to watch the last sopranos season...

Books:

the secret, sin in the second city, here, there and everywhere, mixerman, if the buddha dated, hell's angel, walden, davinci code, taming the tiger within -by thich nhat hanh, if i'm so wonderful, why am i still single?, the four agreements, zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance... k, honestly mostly kustom culture motorcycle and car magazines...

Heroes:

people that contribute beauty, james jamerson, lance armstrong (i don't care what "they" say), greg lemond, eddy merckx, larry mullen jr (finally met him in '05) musical pioneers of the past, rat fink/ed roth, von dutch, indian larry, noam chomsky, the dalai lama, people that do what they do well, people who put their lives on the line so i can live mine, people that made their way in this world before we had it so easy, people who have successful long-lasting healthy and passionate love relationships (how DO they do it?)...
