The genesis of P.O.R as a group can be traced back to 2001 when Z-L had his long time friend D-Scribe provide
back up vocals on his track Underground flow and 4 months late on another DJ E produced
track "Get Ya Own". After that track Z took some time off to annylise if he wanted to throw any more
hard earned money in this, and D-Scribe went on to expirement with new sounds and was
in a couple bands including Maple Grove.
These projects went no were other then the friendship he developed with Mikey Papis
They set up low budget equipment in D-Scribes Appartment and later moved it
to maple groves old studio in Elkton,MD. At this time Z-L would slowly get back
into the game, first recording a mixtape track over 5 beats and then a couple tracks
on Papis and Scribes expiremental project." I still wasn't Ready to make an all out commitment,"
z-l Recalls. Scribe was still working with Papis and z would do mix tape tracks as well.
In early 2004 Z coined the name P.O.R (Pride Over Riches) As Z-L "The meaning is we will still have my pride
when it is said and done. If I don't make it I can still look in the mirror
and be proud."
Z-l and Scribe were also making dj tapes as a hobby. They would pass them out for friends
In Late 2004 they mixed Sounds For Sore Ears wich featured new and old Tracks from
The Roots,Masta Ace, Wu Tang,Jay-Z,Dave Ghetto, Pete Rock, Nas,Skillz, and a host of others.
This cd also featured a freestyle from D-Scribe and Break Down wich is still a crowd favorite to this
day. They decided to put Sounds For Sore ears out in stores. One store owner,Sam Vaughn liked what he heard
from P.O.R on the mic and convinced them to come out to his open mic in wilmington,De.
After a few times of going to Fantasia they became popular with the regulars of fantasia wich led to a write up in The Spark
Magazine and a spot to spit at the 2005 DMC Dj Battle.
During this time the crew began work on their first album Loose Change . At the time the only producers featured on the Album was Lex
Decypher ,Dj E and D-Scribe. They recorded this album fairly quickly at The Maple Grove spot.
In June of 2005 fantasia shut its doors to hip hop and P.O.R did not have much of a following outside of there
In July of the same year the entire album got wiped out when a hard drive crash took all the master recordings.
Later that year the two began working out of wonderland Records out of Newark,DE were they would meet
Marchitect who would become a big part of the 2nd incarnation of Loose change producing 4 out of the 12 tracks
and lending vocals on the Decypher produced track Live N Direct. (origanlly a Z-L solo track)
Only 5 of the original 13 maple grove tracks made it. Let It go (slight change on the beat)
I choose, Front 2 back and break down. One of the Papis Scribe tracks made the album to (The Bussines)
P.O.R began doing shows at The east end and private functions as well gaining a bigger buzz, when they were asked
by Square-One Member K.O the Knock out to join the crazy 88's which at the time was a group
comprised of the 49'ers ,Square One, Phil Nash , 3 Fa Ten and Gentle Jones .
Loose Change Dropped on October 17th 2006 and recived good reviews from those who've bought it.
It featured Production from D-Scribe,DJ E,Lex, Jake Crates ,Marchitect,Decypher and Mikey Papis.
Shortly after the realese P.O.R had a fallen out with the crazy 88's but remain on good terms
to this day. So much in fact the majority of the next album Bumz Luk is produced by members of the 88's.
They began working on Bumz Luk In febuary of 2007 and are looking for a spring of 2008 release
It features production by Spyda Keys , Jas Mace , DJ Trubb , Marchitect, and Z-L. Featured Artist Include the 49'ers
and Side Effect .
In March of 2007 P.O.R founded Loose Change Promotions. A joint venture with Mojo 13 to bring
hip hop shows to Mojo 13 in wilmington. Currently the company is promoting there first Weekend Line Up
With Reef The Lost Cause ,P.O.R,The 49'ers,Side Effect,Gentle Jones,Drac and the Mic Titans
and Dj Tactics who spins on wbls in New york and online for the Pure Elements PodCast.
