I like to look at the world through a camera lens, because it helps me to edit what I see and look at one thing at a time, instead of everything all at once.
I love music, all kinds of music. Photographing musicians is a passion of mine. There is something so great about capturing someone in the act of being creative, in a moment when they are totally expressing themselves. Then my photo becomes my act of creation and allows me to express myself. It's like a combined effort that produces the end result of grabbing a moment and keeping it, to re-experience each time you look at the photo.
One of my favorite photographers, Henri Cartier-Bresson, put it better than I can, when he said:
"Photography is...an expression of the world in visual terms. It is the recognition in a fraction of a second of the significance of an event."
Before I became a professional photographer I worked as a graphic designer and a Sign Language Interpreter. I still dream in sign language sometimes.
Things don't seem real to me sometimes, other times they are hyper-real. But it's all good.
I have a website to showcase the musicians I have photographed if you want to check it out the URL is www.music-photography.com send me an email and let me know what you think. I also work as a portrait, event and wedding photographer, so if you would like to see that portfolio, please visit my other website which is www.delmarphotography.com
and now a few photo quotes from some really smart, cool, eloquent people:
"I always thought of photography as a naughty thing to do---that was one of my favorite things about it." --Diane Arbus
"It is no accident that the photographer becomes a photographer any more than the lion tamer becomes a lion tamer." --Dorothea Lange
"I photograph to find out what something will look like photographed." --Garry Winogrand
