About Me

I have been singing and playing piano since the age of four. In 2004, I released my debut full-length cd titled "Ghosts in My Closet." I just released my second cd, a concept album about women titled "A Lullaby for Ellen West." Ellen West was a woman in a Kim Chernin book I read who had to be institutionalized because she refused to succumb to the limits placed on her as a woman in the early 1900's. The album is a tribute to her and all other women who have been marginalized in some way. It chronicles adversity in the lives of ordinary and extraordinary women from Mary Magdalene to Eva Cassidy to women I know and love. Besides being a singer and songwriter, here are some other random facts about me...I am an identical twin; a published poet; very happy to see a black president in my lifetime- could a woman be next? (a girl can dream); a feminist; a nature lover;a future log cabin owner; obsessed with my toy-Maltese Cecilia, who I named after the Patron Saint of Musicians St.Cecilia; went to college at age sixteen; a private vocal and piano teacher; believe wholeheartedly I will one day marry Johnny Depp; an avid reader of philosophy, autobiographies, and music business books; have two tattoos, and am about to get a third of the Hindu goddess Saraswati....a goddess who nourishes poets, musicians and all those who love to learn; love music festivals and anything else that would put me in the category of "carni-folk"; a bisexual; I lived in the French West Indies, Colorado and New York City but really want to go to Alaska...to find out more about me and my music, check out www.sonicbids.com/jenifertobiasz or www.digstation.com/jenifertobiasz or www.cdbaby.com/cd/jenifertobiasz.

Band Members: Jenifer is currently working in a duo format with guitarist Greg Tower. On her latest cd, "A Lu11aby for E11en West," she worked with many outstanding local musicians, including Jesse Ciarmataro, Dennis Monagle, Andy Canniff, Sue Lewis, Marissa Scarano, Kristen Miller, Jacque Chambers, Alan Williams, and Carol Littlefield McIntyre.
Influences: Patty Griffin, Joni Mitchell, Janis Ian, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray LaMontagne, Indigo Girls, Tori Amos, Eva Cassidy, Bonnie Raitt, Ani DiFranco, Jesse Ciarmataro, Pink Floyd, so many musicians...female poets such as Anne Sexton and Sylvia Plath, Feminist authors Gloria Steinem and Kim Chernin
Sounds Like: I'm sure somebody, but I'll leave that up to the listener. I'd like to sing like Eva Cassidy, write songs like Patty Griffin, and have the general overall genius of Pink Floyd....and since I'm pretty sure that isn't going to happen, I'd just like to sound like the best version of me.
