I am here for Networking

About Me

I am a painter and writer living in Nashville, Tennessee and currently wrapping up my Ph.D. in philosophy. I expect to defend the disseration by the end of this year (2007). By day I used to work as a healthcare journalist for a business-to-business trade publication. It was depressing and monthly staff meetings always made me feel I was living a life of Sartrean bad faith. BUT and this is the awesome BUT ... I have a new job as the editor at the Frist Center for the visual arts. Aaaahhh... life and work finally converge ...

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

In no particular order ...Painters: Edvard Munch, Leonora Carrington, Chaim Soutine, Remedios Varo, Elaine de Kooning (THE better of the two de Koonings), Kay Sage, Vincent Van Gogh (and not because he has been swept up and replicated ad nauseum by the market place), Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, and Max Ernst.Philosophers I would love to meet include William James, Luce Irigaray, Friedrich Nietzsche (though his writings are, no doubt, much more interesting than he would be in person given his general attitude towards women), Helene Cixous, and Clarice Lispector.I would also like to have tea with John Lennon and Yoko Ono and I would invite Akira Kurusawa along. We would have ocha and anko on the top of Mt. Fuji. There are others, but this is enough for now. And the caveat i have to add here is that "meeting" might simply consist of "watching unobserved" as Gyges was able to do when he donned that ring and became invisible. This way I could observe without becoming entangled in the volatile temperaments of some of the folks mentioned above.
