Influences: I'm not sure if I sound like any of my influences. They range from 90s indie rock (a very wide range) to motown to early 80s pop to 70s rock to classical music I learned on the piano at a very young age to twinkle twinkle little star to store grates falling and locking and garbage trucks rumbling and footfalls at 3am when you know the girl in the boots just wants to unlock her door without incident to my friends' music, which has more than often been more insightful and profound and melodic and clear than anything that ever got really famous.Earliest influences: Mom singing church songs and showtunes from musicals; Dad teaching me sheet music on the piano; spontaneous craziness with my sisters. Later my brother recording me first in our basement on 4-tracks he hooked up to speakers in crazy wrong ways that somehow worked, drinking bottles of wine with the labels burned off stolen from a liquor-store fire. I think those tapes still exist somewhere. (Hi Dad!)
Sounds Like: That's why I have some songs posted, so you can listen to them. But if you can't, the C-Note just said something about "tuneful melodic folk rock like Lucinda Williams or Dar Williams or Buddy Holly." But Vince said there are more words in Potholes than Buddy Holly ever wrote in his life. Fair enough, I was still damn flattered. I think at best I sound like the early 80s pop, and at my other best I sound like the things you think about when you're a little drunk and writing before you go to sleep. (And by you, I mean me.)
