Hi, my real name is Michiel Coolen.
My artist name is King Snake.I played drums for as far as i can remember.
When i was 13 i obtained a second hand drumkit, and started practising, by listenig to tunes of Black Sabbath, Camel and Saga on the headphone, whilst jamming away on the drums.
Horrific, i can imagine.
Eventually i got better and started playing in a variety of bands with illustrous names like Tacit Clamour, Zuur, Machine Messiah and King Snake (of wich i apparently inherited the name).
All of these afor mentioned bands were not succesfull, hell, they were awfull (mostly), consisting of streetwise, selftaught musicians, trying to play music far beyond their abilities.
How i managed to get in the heavy metal-acts Dungeon (3 gigs) and an unnamed metalact (now called Redeemer ) (1 gig) is a mystery, but it drove me to speed up the beats and i ended up being almost an average drummer.
Then suddenly it happened; heavy-gigging, funky crossover rock act Propeller offered me a job as the beats-beast.
I played over 50 gig with Willem Niehorster (el Wimo), John van Maanen (Johnito) and various bassists.
I even ended up playing a mini-cd and a mini-live-cd.
I quit the band for no apparent reason and ended up caressing skins in grunge-rock band Turbid View . I played live a several times with this band and even appeared on their demo-cd.
I didn't like the direction the band was going and left.
I met up with former Gye Deen inmates, Ted and Syd, who were already playing with bassist Quint.
After countless drunk nights and fights we decided to name the band Kartel ( http://www.myspace.com/officialkartel ).
After a while even this band didn't last.
We met up with former Propeller axeman Willem Niehorster and started jamming with singer Jake.
After a while Quint and Ted left this outfit.
Only Willem, Jake and I would remain.
The bass is played by several bassists from the region. In 2008 Propeller is back on track.
With bassist Niels Zeven as new member, the band now consists of Johnito, El Wimo, King Snake en Niels Zeven. After a half year of gigging, Propeller was history for good.Niels Zeven, Willem Niehorster and Michiel Coolen formed Dream Flight To Antarctica with singer Jake Badddeley.
New songs of thie formidable band are coming very soon.
