The Paradoxical Commandments
People are unreasonable,
illogical and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good,
people will accuse you
of selfish, ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
If you are successful,
you will win false friends and
true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today
will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness
make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest person with the
biggest ideas can be shot down by
the smallest person
with the smallest mind.
Think big anyway.
What you spend years building
may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.
People really need help but
may attack if you help them.
Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and
you might get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you've got anyway.

A Woman
There comes a time in every
woman's life when she has to
take a close look at herself.
Not at her circumstance,
not at what she did,
not how unfair life is,
or not at who made you do it.
She has to just look at herself
in all her glory and imperfection.
Have you ever admired a woman
who has been through
changes in her life?
Or have you made up your mind
that she is just messed up?
Before you make this mistake,
take a closer look.
A woman who has endured
the most unusual life is
someone of wisdom, someone
who has been chosen by God to
go through things that have
made her stronger.
Think of all the great women
in the Bible: MaryMagdalene,
Ruth and Naomi, the woman with
an issue of blood flow,
and Esther, to name a few.
Mary was a prostitute,
a very uneasy woman.
But by the time Jesus was
done with her, she was
His closest follower.
Esther was unfortunate in
marrying an abusive man, but by
the time God was done with her,
she had married one of the
wealthiest men in the land.
Women are so quick to beat the
next one down instead of trying
to hold her up. Before you wonder,
"What's up with her?" ask yourself,
"What's up with me?"
That woman could be my mother,
sister, aunt, in-law,stepmother,
niece, grandmother,great-grandmother,
neighbor, friend, or co-worker, etc...
That woman could be me!
Women are the carriers of life,
not the channels of death. Let's
build and encourage each other,
as did Ruth and Naomi.

To Everything There is a Season
To everything there is a season
A time for every purpose under Heaven
A time to be born
and a time to die
A time to plant
and a time to pluck what is planted
A time to kill
and a time to heal
A time to break down
and a time to build up
A time to cast away stones
and a time to gather stones
A time to embrace
and a time to refrain from embracing
A time to gain
and a time to lose
A time to keep
and a time to cast away
A time to tear
and a time to sew
A time to keep silence
and a time to speak
A time of love
and a time of hate
A time of war
and a time of peace
Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8
I Am A Soldier In
The
Army of God
I am a soldier in the army of God. The Lord Jesus Christ is my
commanding officer. The Holy Bible is my Code of Conduct.
Faith, prayer, and the Word are my weapons of warfare.
I have been taught by the Holy Spirit, trained by experience,
tried by adversity and tested by fire.
I am a volunteer in this army and I am enlisted for eternity.
I will either retire in this army at the rapture or die in this
army; but I will not get out, sell out, be talked out,
or pushed out. I am faithful, reliable, capable and
dependable. If my God needs me, I am there.
If He needs me in the Sunday school, to teach the children,
work with the youth, help adults or just sit and learn,
He can use me because I am there.
I am a soldier. I am not a baby. I do not need to be
pampered, petted, primed up, pumped up, picked up
or pepped up. I am a soldier. No one has to call me,
remind me, write me, visit me, entice me, or lure me.
I am a soldier. I am not a wimp. I am in place,
saluting my King, obeying His orders, praising His name,
and building His kingdom! No one has to send me flowers,
gifts, food, cards, candy or give me handouts. I do not need
to be cuddled, cradled, cared for, or catered to.
I am committed. I cannot have my feelings hurt bad enough
to turn me around. I cannot be discouraged enough to
turn me aside. I cannot lose
enough to cause me to quit.
When Jesus called me into this army, I had nothing.
If I end up with nothing, I will still come out ahead.
I will win. My God has and will continue to supply all
of my need. I am more than a conqueror. I will always
triumph. I can do all things through Christ. The devil
cannot defeat me. People cannot disillusion me.
Weather cannot weary me. Sickness cannot stop me.
Battles cannot beat me. Money cannot buy me.
Governments cannot silence me and hell cannot handle me.
I am a soldier. Even death cannot destroy me. For when my
Commander calls me from this battlefield, He will promote
me to Captain and then allow me to rule with Him. I am a soldier
in the army, and I am marching, claiming victory. I will not give up.
I will not run around. I am a soldier,
marching heaven bound.

MY SYMPHONY To live content with small means;
to seek elegance rather than luxury,
and refinement rather than fashion;
to be worthy, not respectable,
and wealthy, not, rich;
to listen to stars and birds,
babes and sages, with open heart;
to study hard; to think quietly,
act frankly, talk gently,
await occasions, hurry never;
in a word, to let the spiritual,
unbidden and unconscious,
grow up through the common
--this is my symphony.
WILLIAM HENRY CHANNING
What is Real Success?
Everyone wants success, and yet they often don't know
when they have it. For most, it is the maddening chase
toward a better way of life or more of something.
More fame, power, recognition, money, or material stuff.
For some, it is the understanding of a loving partner,
the love of their child, or the people that they can count
on when life throws them a curve. I am coming to believe
that success is not more material wealth, but peace,
happiness, contentment, and love. Most of all love.
Real success is not to be sought after in the outer world,
but discovered in your inner world. I am not condemning
the stuff of life. We all want the things that life offers.
But we don't need as much as we think we do. Sooner or
later you will discover that real success is friends,
strangers, and anyone who crosses our path. It is
kindness shared, support given and received, listening,
giving, and caring. These will endure while your car rusts,
your toys break, and you tire of the temporary gratifications
that bring you what you think is real. What matters is people.
What lasts is love. What counts are true friends, and if you treasure these you can count yourself a success.

…I sat beside her, unable to resist the feeling that we shared something, the two
of us. The wounds and brokenness of life. Crumpled wings. A collision with
something harsh and real.
I felt like crying for her. For myself.
For every
broken thing in the world.
That moment taught me that while the postures of stillness within the cocoon are
frequently an individual experience, we also need to share out stillness. The bird
taught me anew that we're all in this together, that we need to sit in one another’s
stillness and take up corporate postures of prayer. How wonderful it is when we can be honest and free enough to say to one another, “I need you to wait with me,†or “Would you like me to wait with you?â€
I studied the bird, deeply impressed that she seemed to know instinctively that in
stillness is healing. I had been learning that too, learning that stillness can be
the prayer that transforms us. How much more concentrated our stillness becomes, though, when its shared….
