Running, swimming, kayaking, traveling, dogs and other assorted pets, composting, vegetarianism, reading, listening to music, CSI (only the original in Las Vegas, please!), shopping, and learning new things. Anyone want to go the pottery place and make terrible looking plates? Anyone want to start a book club that reads books we might actually be interested in reading? Anyone want to get your friendly dogs together at the park so they can run around and chase each other and have a good time? Anyone want to have a wine-tasting party? CREATE YOUR OWN! - or - GET PAID TO TAKE SURVEYS!
I'd like to meet:
Fun, funny, interesting, confident, intelligent, crazy, normal, not-so-normal people in Waco, TX and surrounding communities who might be interesting in talking, laughing, debating, seeing movies, eating, drinking, dancing, and in general, just enjoying life. Is that so much to ask?
Music:
I hate to admit mostly top 40, but it's true, although less so lately, all the half-rap-half-hip-hop stuff is not pleasing to me. I want to hear the new All American Rejects Album, I miss counting crows back when they were really good. i also love stuff like Ben Folds Five, Alanis Morissette, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Kenny Wayne Shephard, Fred Astaire, Mozart and Vivaldi, the Dead Milkmen, and Trout Fishing in America.
Movies:
My two favorites, a tie: Strictly Ballroom and Sliding Doors. The Crow is also in there, as is Shawshank Redemption, which I watch every single time I see it on.
Television:
CSI and now Without a Trace. I like the idea that if something bad happened, they would use logic and eventually figure out what happened. I used to be a big fan of Law and Order, but I think I've seen every one! I sometimes watch old Charmed episodes, but I don't watch the new ones anymore. I used to love Buffy the Vampire slayer, but it's gone now. I'm not big on reality tv, i missed the beginning of Lost and don't want to work that hard to catch up with a tv show, and I don't like the news anymore like i used to - it's all so bad!!
Books:
I'm reading the classics, one a month. It started with Moby Dick and a Tale of Two Cities. I've read some Ayn Rand, Ernest Hemmingway, Thornton Wilder, Oscar Wilde, and tons in between. Some books you can totally see why they're classics. they just move you. Other "classic books" I haven't managed to make it through, like Brothers Karamazov. Wow is that guy long winded.
Heroes:
My sister. She got out of a bad marriage, moved out on her own with no support from her crappy ex, raised three little kids and supported them by herself while putting herself through nursing school and still managed not to get bitter or cynical, take care of herself, and to love and support me. I don't know if I could have done what she did.
