Originally formed in 1999 through endless jams and writing music. "I've always had a special musical bond with Shane." Rawl Says. "Even back from when I played in my first band with him. He has a unique style that I've never heard or have been able to duplicate. He is in a world of his own and I'm glad to have him as a guitar player."
Shane and Rawl decided to record their new found music they created and release a CD. "We were so excited about what we were creating" says Rawl. "I had written a lot of music and lyrics, it just came out of me. I completely exposed myself through my music and didn't hold anything back whether it was going to seem negative or not. I needed to get it out of me, to "if you will", cleanse myself from all the bad things I had gone through." The duo released their debut CD "Between here and away" in 2002 under the name Reptilian Breed. The CD received great reviews at shows and through the Internet. They began to play open Mic nights at any place that would have them. Rawl Says. "The open Mic's were always so nerve racking to me. I didn't like the fact that my lyrics, that meant so much to me, were about to be told to a room full of strangers. I got over it after a few shows." The band went on hiatus by the end of 2003 and the beginning of 2004 to regroup and start writing music for a follow up CD. Through this break the band began to learn more about recording and mixing through digital recording.
In 2005 the band underwent some changes and additions. First, long time friend Lindsay Joy was asked to join as the bands Bassist. "I've always wanted bass in our music." Rawl says. "When I began to write and record bass lines to our songs, it didn't occur to me to seek a bass player. I happened to ask Lindz if she was still playing her bass and she told me she had been. Well, I couldn't help but show her what I had and see if she was into it. She was, and we played a show together and the rest is as they say, history." The band also changed their band name. Rawl says. "I just think people might have been getting the impression that we were this hardcore band or a metal band under Reptilian Breed, which I'm not knocking. It was a cool sounding name, but I think it was a good change to have a more melancholy name that fits our music." After a few name ideas, the band settled on Below Echoes.
Now the band is set to release their next CD titled "The sun sets in dark places" due out by summer time. "We think these are the best songs we've written to date" Adds Rawl. "I've gotten into recording big time. I bought a synth, brought in my brother to help out on drums beats. It has been a learning process on the technical side and my song writing I think as greatly improved. I want nothing more then to be the best musician I can be."
