In an industry filled with smoke and mirrors, Sean van der Wilt is the exception to the rule. An enthusiastic musical artist who radiates genuine talent and personality, Sean’s cutting-edge style and high-energy performances demand attention, bringing new life to pop music and placing Sean in a category all his own.
Born in Pennsylvania and raised in South Jersey, Sean began pursuing a career in show business at an early age. After completing high school, he was more determined than ever to make a name for himself. With only $20 and a dream to survive on, Sean relocated to New York City, sleeping in various subway stations while struggling to attend as many auditions as possible. In record time, Sean’s striking features and outgoing demeanor set him apart from other hopefuls and he procured coveted modeling gigs with high-end clients such as Hugo Boss, and Cosmopolitan. The immense exposure he received through those campaigns led to other prominent opportunities for Sean, including national radio and television commercials.
No longer living on the streets and with enough work to make ends meet, Sean began exploring other interests. On a whim, he attended a dance audition with a friend and discovered his passion, as well as his obvious talent, for the art. Sean threw himself into dance and was immediately noticed for his commanding stage presence and natural ability to express emotion through movement. His undeniable skill for the craft made Sean a sought-after dancer and his list of accomplishments include Vh1 Divas Live with Aretha Franklin, Saturday Night Live, a performance for the Royal Family of Morocco, recognition in Dance Spirit magazine, and various film appearances such as a dancing role in the box office hit The Producers and also in Bring It On Again: All or Nothing. Additionally, Sean has danced beside world famous artists Missy Elliot, Mya, Usher, Rihanna, Kelis and Whitney Houston, but the night that launched the next phase of Sean’s career came when he performed as part of the CBS Michael Jackson 30th Anniversary Special.
While working with top producers such as Damon Sharpe (Jennifer Lopez, Mya, Christina Milian), Sean relied on his musical influences to shape the signature sound that defines him as an artist. “As a kid, I was inspired by Michael Jackson and Madonna,†says Sean, “but I also loved Duran Duran, Robert Palmer, and Aerosmith. I think you’ll find elements of each artist in my music yet still be able to hear who I am and what I represent.†Sean has opened for such acts as The Beach Boys and The Black Eyed Peas. He also performed as a headliner for the Seventeen Magazine/JC Penney Rock Your Prom Tour and for iPOP, a twice-annual convention for seasoned performers held in Los Angeles. Sean has also had the honor of taking the stage at the Miss USA pageant, as well as at the Olympic Celebration where he sang in Chinese with Chinese artist Pong Long for over 70,000 people. In 2005, Sean recorded the self-titled theme song to the top-rated, international hit reality TV show, “Big in America,†and in 2006, he was invited to Germany to perform as the opening act for US5, a Platinum selling boy band, on their sold-out European tour.
Sean is currently working on his debut album which is expected to be released in 2007. One of his previous songs, Boom Ba Boom, a blatantly sexy and dance-worthy track held together by Sean’s smooth vocals and seductive lyrics, is featured on the soundtrack from the movie Popstars and serves as merely a glimpse of the unique and catchy sound that we can expect from this all-around entertainer.
