I am the camouflage-clothed chameleon, blending in with every background I come across. But I show my true self only when I think it is safe, where in a few select environments I come in full bloom. I am the onion with many layers, each different but all constructing a whole. On the surface is a wide arena of face value where the worth may be extracted, at the core is the heart of it all where worth itself is judged.
I am the color gray, separating the dark and the light. I am the representation of despondency, insecurity, uncertainty. I am the end of the rainbow where false hopes end and new quests begin. I am the star in their eyes, the sun on their backs, the moon that sends them to slumber. The tears of laughter they cry and the titters of mourning they chuckle. I am the water that runs through their fingers before vanishing into thin air. I am where balance is determined, where equilibrium stops. I am where image fades and realization begins.
I am the girl who walks timidly among the crowd with the quick, calculated steps, and the nervous eyes that dart left and right and back again. In one moment I am at one place, in another at another. I could be a flash of color that sweeps them off their feet, or maybe be just an obstruction in their path. Though I may be found where the beginning ends and where the end begins, may it not be forgotten that I can also be found somewhere in the middle, struggling to make a name, fighting to keep face.
