SHATIFF â€My life is the written scripture let me read from the book...†In the beginning the year was One Thousand Nine Hundred and Seventy Seven; the Gods reversed themselves and chaos reigned supreme. The righteous lay wounded and broken, disgruntled, and beaten. Death roamed desolate inner-city streets preying on stolen innocence; every heart, soul, home, and city where the righteous dwelled bore the blood stained mark of injustice. They were the chosen. It was their cries that gave birth to a nation, and they named her Hip-Hop. Meanwhile, 95°degrees due south in the heart of the City of Power an aged couple welcomed the impossible; and to them a boy was born. “Crowned†Steven Jenkins at birth, young Shatiff was incredibly gifted in football; mastering the ability at a young age to analyze the playing field from all perspectives. Which in high school eventually lead to him being considered one of the top ranked free safeties in South Carolina. At the age of 8 Steven noticed his impeccable ability to maintain rhymes over a beat without flaw; he then began to record his thoughts on tape. Seasoning his recordings with the fine flavorings of D.C.’s finest: Go-Go. Then, unexpectedly Fate stepped in, put the top back on the concoction, turned the heat up to slow burn; and to South Carolina he went. It was in South Carolina that Steven learned to master his craft. In the year of One Thousand Nine Hundred Ninety; thirteen years after his birth Steven performed in his first live performance in S.C. The organizers of the event were so impressed; they asked him to return for a second show. In the year of One Thousand Nine Hundred Ninety Five, Steven then known as Jinx, along with his producer G-Love, began studying the Supreme Mathematics from the Nation of Gods and Earths. During this time he and G-Love joined the Universal Soldiers, and Steven became known as Shatiff. The Universal Soldiers were a group 13 individuals comprising a group of interchangeable groups. It was with The Universal Soldiers, aided and abetted by crime, weed, alcohol, and an affinity for home-grown mix tapes, that Shatiff mastered the art of Hip-Hop. Eventually the group fell apart due to the everyday struggles of life and the remaining members formed a new group called Strugglaz. The group began recording and sold approximately 4500 cds out the trunks of their cars. As the popularity of the Strugglaz increased so did their involvement in the back alley dealings of the S.C. underworld; and as Fate would have it Shatiff reaped what he sowed and ended up serving a few months in the bowels of a modern day Carolina slave camp: Prison. During his time in prison Shatiff began to reassess his priorities and center his perspective on himself as an individual. His shift in perspective eventually lead Shatiff to return to his birthplace Washington, DC; the Beginning of it all. From his thoughts on family life to his social life it all spills over into the music and what you hear is Shatiff… the walking secret.
