10-15: Saw the movie 'Rad' and started saving money mowing lawns to buy a bike with stunt nuts. With a lime green Diamondback Hot Streak in my possession I spend every waking moment flatlanding in front of my parent's house.
15-20: My family moves to Plymouth and I get a driver's license. I now spend every waking moment riding dirt jumps and street.
20-25: Left college, turned pro, got sponsored by GT Bikes and started living on the road all in a span of about 1 month when I'm 21. Over air conditioned hotel rooms, astonishing frequent flier accounts and countless cities comprise the bulk of these years.
25-30: GT goes bankrupt, I ride for Giant for 2.5 years before they fire me. Then I start riding for Free Agent Bikes in 2004. In 2005 I move to Orlando, i.e. God's Waiting Room. I immediately purchase an oversized fanny pack, an entirely white wardrobe and start driving 30 Mph below the speed limit.

Stephen Murray is someone I've always held a tremendous amount of respect for as both a human being and a bike rider. We both turned pro about the same time and thus have been at the same events for the past decade; I've always have made a point to stop and talk with him, see how he's doing, what he's been up to, etc. We shake hands, talk some, and then repeat about the same formality the next weekend in a different city. Sounds pretty impersonal and maybe even trivial from the outside, but catching up with him has always been something I've looked forward to.
At our first event this year in Baltimore Stephen suffered a bad crash resulting in a broken neck. I heard about this right before my event, but had no details as to the severity of it. While leaving the hotel the following morning to catch a flight I saw someone on staff and casually asked how Stephen was doing. 'You didn't hear?'
'No, is he okay?'. 'He severed his spinal chord, he's paralyzed'.
You know that feeling when you hear something so devastating you literally feel as if everything inside you falls to the floor in an instant? I thought about him the plane ride home and everyday since.
Stephen's medical bills are astronomical. As pro riders we are responsible for our own insurance. Even then insurance will not cover everything and he is looking at medical assistance for many, many years. He is currently being treated in Denver, but needs everyone's help.
