About Me

My name starts with a J. You probably already know it or perhaps not. I play lead guitar in a metal/thrash band called Almost is Nothing. I love playing guitar more than anything else in the world. I grew up in Wyoming but quickly left that shithole right-wing, beer, meth & truck-loving state 2 years ago and came to the rainy city Portland, Oregon and have stayed ever since. No, I do not miss the masses of ignorant, pathetic rednecks like larry the cable guy, multiple american flags on trucks and SUVs, or windshield decals that yield words like "Redneck" & "Ain't Skeered" in No Fear logos, delusional and conceited mormons. Not everyone sucks there, but most everyone does. Tweekers suck. People who listen to top 40 radio pop hits are usually pretty lame too or all of the indie-rock hipsters here in P-town. They're not much better. Once upon a time, I made a grindcore side project named subversive disorder: www.myspace.com/subversivedisorder Which Fight Club Character Are You?

My Interests

Playing Guitar, writing music, checking out shows, Almost is Nothing, intelligent or unique conversation discluding bullshit small talk that everyone talks about, sharing nihilistic and hopeless viewpoints with others. Writing poetry/lyrics, listening to music. Meeting new/interesting/smart/thinking people. Dark Imagery.

I'd like to meet:

Other music junkies(like myself). Anyone that may inspire me musically or in thought. Anyone striving for change and willing to speak out. Hip-hop producers/emcees in the portland area. People to make ambient/experimental/noise music with in the area as well. The guy who created the delay pedal. God, Jesus Christ, Buddha, the Dalai Lama, a Shaman, any higher power. I'd like to jam out with John Petrucci, Joe Satriani, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Stevie Ray Vaughan, dimebag darrell(come back as a zombie fucker!!), Mike Portnoy, Mono, Danny Carey, Abe Cunningham, Josh Freese, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin 1973 era, Isis, Mogwai. I wouldn't mind meeting Gandhi, Karl Marx, Noah Levine, Howard Zinn, Noam Chomsky, George Orwell, probably some others, but most of all, a normal person so I can finally know what I've been told all of my life of what I am not.

Music:

Bands I listen to ALOT lately: Mono, Thursday, Dream Theater, Pig Destroyer, The Mars Volta, Suffocation, A Perfect Circle, Tool, All that Remains, Joe Satriani, Radiohead, Deathcab for Cutie(transatlanticism), The Black Dahlia Murder, Circa Survive, Nasum. And more bands/musicians I like but don't listen to as much: Metallica(old), Megadeth, Slayer, Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, Dream Theater, Children of Bodom, Classic Case, The Police, U2, Explosions in the Sky, Thrice, 3 Inches of Blood, Isis, Neurosis, Pelican, Cephalic Carnage, The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Red Chord, Ion Dissonance, Psyopus, Eyedea&abilities, Atmosphere, Sole, Sage Francis, Greyskul, Aesop Rock, Fistol, Minor Threat, Fugazi, Black Flag, Bad Brains, Fear, Goldfinger, Story of the Year, The Used, Rise Against, Ignite, Dark Tranquility, At the Gates, In Flames, and ton more....

Movies:

V for Vendetta, Fight Club, Pi, Requiem for a Dream, Memento, Jacob's Ladder, A Clockwork Orange, A Beautiful Mind, The Red Violin, 12 Monkeys, Waking Life, Before Sunrise, What Dreams May Come, Gorey movies on occasion and many terrible guilty pleasures. I don't watch very many movies anymore though, I usually find something else to do.

Television:

Boring educational shows, South Park, Football, Basketball, Sportscenter, Law & Order on occasion....though it doesn't come on much if i'm the only one home.

Books:

A People's History of the United States, The Long Emergency, Dharma Punx, Brave New World, 1984, Fight Club, The Stand, Catcher in the Rye, The Dark Tower series, Divine Comedy, Animal Farm. I read the paper nearly everyday and a few music zines when somebody else spends their money on them for my reading pleasure.

Heroes:

Mom & Pops, my blood bros and sisters, passionate musicians, skilled&humble musicians, great artists, free thinkers.
