About Me

READ CAPTIONS BY HOLDING CURSOR OVER BOTTOM RIGHT OF SLIDESHOW :)..Davy Ray has been playing the guitar since he got his first Martin Sigma guitar when he was 13 years old, living in Lebanon, Tn. He grew up listening to his mom's old yard sale albums like Herman's Hermits, Kenny Rogers, The Beatles Yesterday and Today, Motown's greatest hits, Air Supply, and even Dolly Parton. Davy spent a few years dropping out of school and skateboarding with some buds before he came to the realization that music was what he was sent here to do. In '91 he began college at M.T.S.U. and studied classical guitar there with Dr. William Yelverton. He went through a bad breakup there and did that typical thing that guys do when their poor little hearts get broken, he moved out of town. This is what brought him to Memphis. In Memphis, he took some time off from school, tried to break in to the local music scene, finished an iron workers apprenticeship program, and recently received his bachelor's degree from the University of Memphis. There he studied with the world renowned guitarist, Dr. Lily Afshar. The three recordings of instrumental music on this page are from his senior recital.Davy and his former fiance, Misti Rae Warren, had a band called Rae-Ray that turned alot of ears in the local scene. In November of this year, Davy Ray cut a single called "Madagascar" (The World is Stopping for You) at World famous Ardent Studios. He fell in love with the experience of working with Professionals like Jeff Powell who engineered the single, and Harry Peel on drums and Sam Shoupe on upright bass. Who knows what he'll do next, but meanwhile you can see him on any given day composing new material at the Otherlands Cafe in Midtown Memphis. Also, if you're interested in learning his craft, you should message him. Davy teaches at Studio 708 in Brookhaven circle for $25 a half hour and $45 per hour. If you live in Collierville, He teaches at The First baptist Church Of Collierville. If you live in Midtown, he teaches out of his house.
