About The FunHouse
The FunHouse is a legendary club to clubbers and DJ's all over the world. The club opened up on March 30, 1979 and invited guests were only allowed to enter. The peak of the club was in the 1980's, and it is also were Madonna met up with John "Jellybean" Benitez.
On the opening night the legendary DJ and Remixer - Jim Burgess - along with Bobby "DJ" Guttadaro, kept the dancefloor moving. Jonathan Fearing took over the DJ booth as the first resident DJ of the club. Jonathan played the crowd a mix of classic Disco tunes together with a blend of harder dance tracks. He also had worked at the hip radio station 92.3WKTU, this took more and more of his time and he had to give up his DJ'ing at the Fun House and he was replaced by Jellybean.
The FunHouse had this clown for its logo. The clown even became famous far outside the New York area. Even the DJ-booth was painted as a giant clown, with this red light ball nose and where the DJ was seen in the clown's mouth.
The club got so famous that it got included in many news articles about disco and the dance scene. There was an article called "Beatin' it with the Juice Crew (Saturday Night at the FunHouse)" written by Steven Hager for the Village Voice back in May 17, 1983.
Some of the Groups that performed there were: New Order, Run-DMC, Yellow, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, Full Force, Planet Patrol, Bohannan, Grace Jones, Jenny Burton, George Kranz, Dan Hartman, Lime, D-Train, Soul Sonic Force, Divine, Man Parrish, Frances Joli, Lil Suzy (when she was just a kid), and the list goes on.
