Boobie Stoops was born Byron Johnson in Detroit, Michigan on February 26, 1987. Growing up, hip-hop was always in his headphones, but never in his heart. It wasn’t until he popped in the Marshall Mathers LP by Eminem that he was inspired to pick up a pad. “When I heard the way Em was flipping words and the emotion he was spitting with, I was amazed. At that moment I knew I wanted to be an emcee, because I wanted to make somebody feel the way Eminem made me feel.†says Stoops. Starting off as B-Nice, Stoops began writing all day every day, and was even suspended when his principle found a song that attacked every girl in his grade personally, inspired by the song “Criminal†by who else, Eminem. That was when he was 13. Now, at the age of 19, Boobie Stoops’ pursuit of a career is just starting to take off, thanks in part to his actual voice, something he used to try to change but has come to accept and embrace. Never has a rapper with such a deep delivery supplied lines reminiscent of Big L, while flipping syllables like a 26 year old Marshall Mathers. His punchlines are among the best, with lines like “I try to listen to the law more, but I’m sick of Uno niggas, yeah they WILD until we DRAW FOUR.†After just two mixtapes, and a couple appearances on others’ mixtapes, his name is beginning to become known more and more throughout the city of Detroit. In October 2006, Boobie Stoops was featured on the “Detroit Unsigned Hype†mixtape hosted by the up-and-coming DJ Young Mase, which is being sold in all of the hip-hop shops in the city.MIXTAPE OUT NOW!!
