Sergei Pavlovich Korolev
Everyone should know about this amazing person:
Korolev, Sergei Pavlovich, 1907–66, Soviet rocket designer. His role as chief designer of the Soviet space program was revealed only after his death. After he successfully launched two intercontinental ballistic missiles in Aug. 1957, Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev allowed him to attempt the orbiting of a test satellite; as a result, Sputnik 1, the first artificial earth satellite, was orbited successfully on Oct. 4, 1957. Korolev also directed the launching of the USSR's first unmanned space probes and manned space missions.
Korolev was behind the design of the soviet rocket technologies which enabled the first man, Yuri Gagarin to travel into space. He beat the Americans to every space milestone and the only reason he didn't beat them to the moon was because he was pushed so hard, the he died only a few years before the first moon landing.
This man was incredible and did so much for the space industry we have now. Everyone should know how great this man was!
