About Me

I'm Jim McLaren and I'm a musician in Vancouver, originally from Lethbridge, Alberta. I graduated from the University of Lethbridge in 2001 with a B.Sc(Physics) and a B.Ed(Science and Music Education). From there, I performed with New West theatre for 5 years, where I met the love of my life, Jenny Andersen :) After the New West summer show we did in 2005, I met up with the boys in INCURA and we all decided to move out here to Vancouver for bigger and better things. Now we're out trying to make it in the music and arts world and we're loving it!
I play keyboards in the progressive rock band, INCURA. I also play a variety of other instruments at a studio level such as guitar, bass and the Chapman Stick. I am available for any studio or performance gig. Blues, jazz, rock, pop, country are all styles I am comfortable with on: bass, chapman stick, guitar and keyboards. I am also available for hire as a sideman for any local gigs. I am highly trained from a theoretical perspective and love playing music of any style.
Guitar - Blues, Rock, Metal, Pop, Country, Jazz (chording and improv) Bass - all genres, with fretless and slap Keyboards - all genres with B3, Rhodes/Wurli and Clav capability, samples and laptop friendly Chapman Stick - functioning as a bass player, or a soloing instrument
Check some of my songs out to hear me playing different instruments in different styles. Right now I have a couple of tunes with me playing the Chapman Stick - with my band INCURA and some solo songs as well. In 2003 I produced and recorded Genesis Tribute album, "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway".

So tonight after we rehearsed Kyle tells me that we have a TV interview for a 'local cable' show. I'm thinking, "Cool, a little low-key talk session with a TV dude in a small, lo-tech cable-access sta...
