About Me

A senial retirement escapee once spoke of a hole in no far away land with no heroic tales to boast of. A poet clad only in ball shorts and tie up sneakers stood at its edge. Born and raised in the town of Westminster Colorado, he knew not from where the hole had arrived. He put his ear against the ground and listened to the beat pulsing through the asphalt. Infected with the virus he endlessly searched for the source of his infection. Rapping over homegrown beats, ink stains on his fingers, he saw no marks on the chalkboard, no words of his eduation, only the sound of his genesis playing on repeat. Through the struggle for truth among the illusions of life rests the growing individuality of an artist christened Nodis. In a game with shifting rules and perceptions, finding a niche is an impossibility most cannot mount. In a genre dismissed by popular industry one emcee embraces the labor, rapping through the daily grind to knock on the locked metal doors of industry. Driven by a course he cannot dismiss, by words he cannot silence "It's almost like with hip hop you're set up to not be heard, and I feel like I have a message that needs to be heard." In tireless efforts Nodis writes down what surrounds him- obsessively sampling beats to match his melodic observations. In his endeavor to step outside the mold, Nodis has a constant gravity to original beats and unconventional concepts often progressing out of the hip hop circuit in his quest. Nodis faces no need for a muse, no lack of inspiration, his daily encounters fuel his pen, as he examines and dissects the interactions between those who roam his surroundings. If the interactions of his day fail to provide, the turbulence that dots his own course provide further creativity for his verses, a vent for life's loose ends. Nodis credits his musical influences to the likes of KRS-ONE, Common, One Be Lo, Talib, and Mos Def. Outside of this ever growing collection of influence, Nodis finds none better than that of honest expression, the music only a life's walk in his shoes could produce. In his pull for the unique Nodis strives to connect with producers via the internet- to further broaden his sound and avoid the four walls of the proverbial box. When there is none better than that of a domestic sound, Nodis looks no further than the talent of the local. Riding on a natural rythym this emcee creates music to respect, attrbuting fate as the source for his internal tempo. Like all good missionaries Nodis points to music as his savior from the robotic life of mainstream conformity, claims conversion as his mission, and vows to save the masses from this dismal fate. Jesus chose his disciples, America chose Kelly Clarkson, "the music chose Nodis."Enthusiasts of hip hop have a skill for rattling off reasons their claimed genre is the only music worthy of headphones. Nodis is no exception, with a passion honoring of the music, he checks off his first reason " I love everything about real hip hop, the love, the individuality, the creative expression," his first finger folded against his palm he lists his second, "It's one of the few places I feel like I can be myself." With a solo career driving his future, Nodis has found the contentment of freedom we all hunger. The growth of his talent resides in the increasing self-respect and confidence, a precursor to his decided creative success.True to the underground standard Nodis wants to drop a first album for the people, selling it at a meager price for the poor and faithful. With record deals promised to no artist, Nodis pledges to keep on the move without the promised certainty, and live the cliche of making music for the music. With no current and pressing collabs Nodis lends his talent and support to the local scene with his focus turned inward in refinement of his solo career. Step into one of MC Nodis' shows and you can witness the boy in ball shorts and tie up sneakers dominating the sound. Stand back in the crowd and you will see the old man wearing the grin of foreshadow.Writtin By: Marissa Mills
