About Me

To purchase releases, and other releases, there is an up to date distro list on the webpage www.dissidentrecords.comDissident Records has been active inside the extreme metal market within Australia since 1998 but our enthusiasm for underground music stems right back to the mid 1980’s. Having experienced the cavalcade of quality thrash acts during this period lead to our first tentative steps into the scene with the publication of the Expurgate Morality Fanzine at the beginning of 1990. Lasting only a handful of issues over 3 years this still left its mark with the first professional unveiling of Goddog designs and having the opportunity to interview many unheard of acts at the time that later became scene luminaries. During the late ‘90s though we felt compelled after years of minor activity in the scene (shirts designs, show bookings etc) to create a label to house the most ferocious bands from both Australia and further a field. Only those of truly an underground calling need apply, there will be no home for the more commercial 'musical' persuasions in the scene currently. Exposure of the labels releases outside of the Australian shores was focused within America to begin with but due to the limitations of the scene within Australia and its distance from both Europe and America a relocation to the United Kingdom was made. Re-establishing operations in the UK has been fraught with hurdles and impediments but the increase in distribution, promotion and tour opportunities have opened new avenues for the label. Dissident Records is the main concern which is focused on the darker end of both Death and Black Metal acts but due to the proliferation of quality death metal acts on the scene currently that may not quite fit under this banner it was decided to create the Dead by Dawn subsidiary to unleash these artists on an unsuspecting world.Although there have only been a few releases thus far, the quality has guaranteed attention to the label from all over the world. Also extensive touring within Europe is planned for many of our recording artists in the coming years.
