Wright is from Lansing, Michigan. She began piano and dance lessons at five years old, performing in
piano competitions, recitals and musicals until age 15. Wright then entered Interlochen Arts Academy,
the highly regarded boarding high school for the arts, after which she attended Oberlin College and the
University of Chicago. In 1999 she moved to New York City to pursue a performance career. appeared at
Wright has performed at the Donnell Library in New York City, the Dobbs Ferry
Waterfront series with Stu Cutler’s Blues Band, Vladeck Hall, The American Folk Art Museum for
the Dargerism Exhibit, and most recently at Symphony Space in Duke Ellington’s “Such Sweet Thunder." She has played in many New York nightclubs including Smalls, Fat Cat, Zinc Bar, Jules, Roth’s
Steakhouse, Aruba, Boom, and Arturo’s, with jazz greats such as Barry Harris, Jimmy Cobb, Victor Goines, Harry
Whitaker, Peter Bernstein, Saul Rubin, Essiet Essiet, Greg Bandy, Roni Ben-Hur, Michael Howell, Satoshi Inoue, and
Marion Cowings.
In March 2009, Wright joined Chris Byars, Ari Roland, Sacha Perry, Phil Stewart, and Marion Cowings on a State Department Tour in Cyprus. In September she boarded the Princess Caribbean cruise ship with her band and traveled up to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Wright completed her first album September in the Rain with musicians Harry Whitaker, Saul Rubin, Noriko Ueda, Quincy Davis, and Warren Vache. On sale now!
