It is often through tragedy and hardship, that one is forced to delve into the pits of themselves and transform pain and anguish into impeccable art. Music breaks the silence, through a universal language that fuses us all together and reminds us of our humanness. Through expressing the almost inexpressible, I have gained a greater sense of self and clarity. Writing enables me to conquer, triumph and overcome. My mother raised my two brothers and I single-handedly, her strength and courage in approaching such a daunting task, encourages me to go after my dreams with resilience. Music was therapy in our household-it was nostalgia. I would fall asleep listening to old school tunes and find myself inspired by the works of Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway and Marvin Gaye. Something about their music made me feel alive—the lyrics were alluring, they lured me. This passion and intensity compels me to create the same feelings in others. I am committed to delivering real life issues with charisma, while unveiling songs that are authentically honest and relatable to the human experience.I have been afforded great opportunities through this powerful and influential medium-that we call music, performing with the likes of Foley (former lead bassist for Miles Davis), opening for groups such as The Roots, Rome, and Mint Condition, and achieving localized fame through battle ciphers, open mics and talent shows around the Columbus, Ohio (614). However at the tender and explorative age of 18, I decided to move to New York City, far from the confines of my hometown-to further pursue my passions and ultimately shock the world! With no question, I intend to leave my mark as one of the most talented and creative poets/emcees to ever grab a microphone and, fill a void long overdue!
