New and Interested Students
Our Program
HCC is currently offering technique classes in Dance Basics, Ballet, and Modern Dance. These are college classes that can be taken as part of the AA degree with emphasis in Dance or for personal fulfillment. In this case, dance credits will be applied to the 24 credit hours of electives that are required for an HCC AA degree.
*Special Note* These are college classes and follow the same schedule as other courses. ALL Drop/Add and Withdrawal dates apply.
An AA degree with emphasis in dance is designed to be transferred to Universities offering Dance as an area of study.

Dance Basics Class
If you are new to dance, or if it has just been a while, then the Dance Basics class may be right for you.
This class will cover everything that you will need to know for Ballet I and Modern I. The emphasis in this class will be placed upon attaining correct body alignment, learning the positions of the arms and feet, and the understanding of time, space, weight, and energy as it relates to dance. Students learn basic dance vocabulary while developing strength and musicality.
Attire
The Dance Basics class has the same requirement as Ballet; you will wear a black leotard, pink tights, and ballet shoes. Modern classes require a black leotard, black tights, and no shoes.
The two most popular dance stores that our dancers use are Sports 4 Girls and On Your Toes. Both of them offer discounts to HCC dance students.

Dance Club
The dance club is a student organization that supports the interests of the dance program. You do not need to be a dance student to be in the club, only have an interest in dance, and be an HCC student.
Dance Club Meetings
Meetings are generally held once or twice a week at a time that is convenient for the majority of the members. Most typically, they are held in the dance studio located on the second floor of the Ybor Child Development Center (YCDC) @ the corner of Palm and 15th.
As a Club member, you are required to attend ALL meetings. Please notify an officer if you are unable to attend. Also, please read the minutes to stay notified of changes and upcoming events. You may view them in the blog or pick up a copy from the Dance Club room.
Dance Club Events
1st Fridays
On the first Friday of every month, the Dance Club hosts an event called 1st Friday. This is a student supported informal showcase of work and works-in-progress for all the visual and performing arts from all HCC students. Because this is college level work, parental discretion is advised, however, performers are asked to keep vulgarity and profanity to a minimum. ALL artistic talent is welcome from ALL students.
As a fundraiser for the Dance Club, the cost is typically $3.00 for all viewing and is always free for performers.
All 1st Friday events are held in the dance studio located on the second floor of the Ybor Child Development Center (YCDC) @ the corner of Palm and 15th.
