About Me

Jibreel began writing lyrics at the tender age of 11. Brought up in the heart of inner city Bradford (aka Bradistan, aka Land of the Riots, aka Curry Capital!), inspired by lyrical geniuses such as Rakim, he spent much of his early teens developing his lyrical skills and vocal delivery. At 13, he sent off a number of his early demo recordings. Two of these were personally replied to by the Head of A&R in two of the UK’s leading hip-hop labels of the time, Music Of Life and Rhythm King. However both asked him to contact them when he turned 16/17.
Jibreel did this earlier than expected, at the age of 15. Leading to the Head of A&R at Rhythm King becoming a close friend and industry contact. To cut a long story short, various record company politics left Jibreel as one of the UK’s hottest young unsigned prospects. This soon changed when his group VSI signed to Virgin UK in 2000.
The sudden death of his father at the young age of 42, when Jibreel was only 16 had left him as the head of a household comprising 3 younger sisters and a mother. More than ever he needed his music to provide. All was going well until close to their debut single release, Jibreel witnessed a number of irregularities. This led to a personal dilemma, trust or money. Jibreel decided he could no longer continue in the midst of dishonesty, so he left in July 2001.
Jibreel has returned to the urban stomping ground after a period of absence, as a solo artist. With a mature sound and style that incorporates his passion, talent and diverse influences. If he is given the correct support and a label which believes in him there is no stopping Jibreel from becoming the shining light not only in the UK Urban music scene but in the Asian music scene, the Mainstream, Europe, the rapidly growing Islamic hip-hop scene (which already includes heavyweights Outlandish, Mos Def and Napoleon of 2Pac’s Outlawz), and beyond. His music is infectious and conveyed with a variety and honesty which as easily appeals to the hardest of hip-hop heads as to the average popular music listener.
Furthermore, he has managed to balance the underground rawness of his musical influences with likely top 10 chart smash-hits. A rarity for both his genre and country.
