Bowling With Shumpy!

About Me

Bowling With Shumpy! that's the band. Who is Shumpy? Wouldn't you like to know. Guerilla Disc? That's the artist label/production company based in Seattle, Washington.

Biography
Sheryl Diane Shumsky: Resides in Seattle. She was born in Montana, moved west in '89 after some formative years in Bozeman, DJ-ing at college radio station, KGLT and thereby baptizing herself in all manner of music (see INFLUENCES for more info).
Sheryl Diane, started playing piano in second grade and as a descendant of 4 generations of maternal piano players, was destined to wield the light-weight hammers and divide her time between musicianship and mothering. She graduated from Fairhaven College with a self-designed degree, Aural Media, ('91); relocated to Seattle ('92); performed solo, started a band (The Figs '98), produced a long running women’s songwriter series, (Wine, Women & Chocolate '00-'05), finally left the day-job to become a sought-after piano teacher, and developed a first recording, (Blackberry Love EP '04); all while raising offspring with Joe "Bass" Skyward (known currently for work with Jeremy Enigk and previously: Sunny Day Real Estate, The Walkabouts, The Posies, Pretty Mary Sunshine and Sky Cries Mary).
Bowling with Shumpy! is the latest incarnation of a deluxe sideshow of musical talent organized for a concept rock album entitled Dream Carnival. The band is Sheryl Diane, keyboard; Woogie D, drums; & Tige DeCoster, bass; with various others. As the recording progresses the newly finished tracks will be posted here for your amusement. -- 01/19/2009

its not unusual

Sounds Like: "You're music is pretty bad-ass. I'm listening to Tattoo Detective. Nice work. You sound like mixture of Madonna and Patty Smith to me."

"Kate Bush meets Fleetwood Mac" --quote from Dave Winfrey 1992
Myspace Layouts
Anyway, your MySpace site is very cool and your music, with your jazzy lilting voice, has an edgy quality . . . . I wish I was better at music theory jargon because there's something tangential about the musical journey you take me on, familiar in some ways and yet it drifts off on its own esoteric path; sometimes sweet, sometimes bordering on a dark precipise (I'm listening to Blackberry Love at the moment). Very nice!
--quote from Tom Mellado 2008
"There are times when Sheryl's voice brings Kate Bush to mind, maybe a hint of Tori Amos too. But the songs and vocal style, especially in phrasing, are distinctive - and she sings with power and verve and a sense of freedom."
--quote from Jamie Field 2004
". . . . while singing in a voice that evokes the bluesy croon of Rickie Lee Jones. The result is often eerie, usually atmospheric, and pretty much never anything like the music that we've grown accustomed to associating with contemporary singer-songwriters . . . "
