Almost everyone in line was already watching a virtual "storeworld", (where everything is free), through the stereo ATFT computer screens attached to their heads; often on stylish soccer caps. Most of the people here were on the "6-1" plan. This meant the govenment let them spend one day a week shopping. Only the most respectable occupations within society- lawyer, politician, stock market bubble theorist, etc. were on the "5-2" plan. Most of the time in the bigger cities like Alphaville, the store was kept open 24 hours a day. However, today a terrorist was being apprehended inside the store so troops were sent in and the doors closed. While the news of this was distressing, many shoppers had a system in place to pay a legal immigrant to keep their place in line until the store re-opened after the incursion was contained. Many people paid with coupons or "bargaining chips" that came with discounts on popular merchandise in the store. Wives and husbands had no trouble finding each other after work due to the government sponsered global positioning ID cards most people had in their purses or wallets.
