Lofast is a hardcore/punkband from Svolvær. The summer of 1995, Peter (vocals & guitar) and Preben (drums) decided to start a band. They were joined by Thomas (guitar) and Øyvind (bass & backing vocals) during the summer. The bandmembers were only 15 and 16 years old at the time. Initially the band played rock'n roll and punk covers under the name Rancour. After a while Peter started writing some songs and the group concentrated on playing punk rock. During 1996, Thomas quit the band and joined Vidunderlig Svineri. Being reduced to only three members the group started practicing in Prebens room. Rancour changed from being a punk band to being a hardcore band playing only a few punk songs. Espen joined the band after a while as the lead guitar player, making Peter able to concentrate on the screaming and singing.Autumn of 1996, the group did their first show away from home at Vesterålsrock in Melbu, still under the name Rancour. At that time, the group didn't play covers anymore, and all the songs were written by Peter. Unfortunately the show was bad, due to really bad technicians who were unable to give Rancour and their friends in Vidunderlig Svineri the right sound. The festival was a great experience despite the bad sound. After the show in Melbu the group changed names to Lofast in sympathy with the project of making the Lofoten Islands connected to the mainland, which of course will make all us Islanders able to avoid Melbu if we want to. This project is not finished yet1997 was a promising year for Lofast. The group had become much better because of the positive competition from the other bands on the good music scene in Svolvær at the time. Friends from groups like Vidunderlig Svineri and Nemesis made the shows great happenings, and all the three groups were improving their appearances from show to show. However, during the spring of 1997, Lofast played their last shows. The three last shows were great though. The show at Rock mot Rus in Andenes was great, and the audience were fantastic. Lofast played their best show. A month later the group played a legendary gig at Grillbaren in Kabelvåg together with Vidunderlig Svineri and Nemesis. All the groups had a really good night. The last show was at Ungdomsklubben in Svolvær, May 16th. The group had already decided to split and most of the songs Peter had written for the group were played that night. After the split, the former members of Lofast went on to play with other bands. Most notably, Espen and Øyvind S. (from Vidunderlig Svineri, not the one in Lofast) formed a group called Rather Nasty that Peter joined after a while, while Øyvind joined Vanskapt (the band formerly known as Vidunderlig Svineri). However, when Øyvind had to join the army during 1998, he left the group. Peter joined the Vanskapt, a group he originally was a member of, during 1999.Because of the "Æ bor i Lofoten" project, Peter and Øyvind decided that it was about time to record some of the old songs. The plan was to record Precious Thing and if possible Do it in a different way. However, they could not play with the original line-up, and it was decided that they had to call the project A Tribute to Lofast. From the original line-up, Peter had switched to drums, while Espen played guitars, and Øyvind the bass. Our good friends Tommy (from Vanskapt) and Carl Christian (from Turdus Musicus) agreed to do the vocals. The results of the recording sessions in December 2005 and February 2006, will be put on the "Æ bor i Lofoten" compilation cd, and later on this myspace profile and our NRK-urørt profile. A demo cd will also be released, and those interested will be able to buy it through this myspace profile.Check www.lofoten.2fear.com if you understand Norwegian.Feskslog Records 002- Lofast: Precious Thing Demo
