About Me

Nathan Stark, bass, hails from Long Beach, California. He began his musical training under Dr. Lewis Woodward and Dr. Cherrie Llewellyn at Modesto Junior College, starting off as a singer in musical theatre productions. He soon switched his vocal interests to opera and the art of classical singing. He has been an active performer in opera, theatre, and musical theatre and has been a featured recitalist throughout the United States and parts of Europe. Some of his favorite operatic roles have included Don Alfonso in Cosi fan Tutte, Seneca in L’incoronazione di Poppea, Frank in Die Fledermaus, Colline in La Boheme, Somnus & Cadmus in Semele, and Don Profondo in il Viaggio a Reims. He has been the bass soloist for the Verdi Requiem, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Beethoven’s Mass in C Major, Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Cantata 70, and the Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem. He has performed with the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, The Long Beach Camerata Orchestra, the Pasadena Pops Orchestra, The Beijing National Symphony, the Los Angeles Musica Angelica Baroque orchestra, and the Cincinnati College Conservatory Philharmonia Orchestra. He has performed with Opera Pacific, Center Stage Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Long Beach Opera, the CSULB Opera Institute, The Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music Opera institute and The Music Academy of the West. His voice teachers have included Ms. Shigemi Matsumoto, Dr. Lewis Woodward, Dr. Cherrie Llewellyn, Mr. Kenneth Shaw. He has had the pleasure working under the batons of Maestro Andreas Mitisek (Long Beach Opera), John DeMain (Opera Pacific), Christopher Larkin (Music Academy of the West), Mark Gibson (CCM) and has worked with internationally acclaimed vocal coaches such as Warren Jones, Jonathan Churchwell, William Vendice, and Henri Venanzi. Additionally, Mr. Stark has had the pleasure of working/coaching with legendary artists such Marilyn Horne, Dolora Zajick, Frederica von Stade, and Thomas Hampson.In the Fall of 2005, Nathan had the extreme honor to sing for the President of the United States, The First Lady, and Mrs. Nancy Reagan at the opening ceremony of The Air Force One exhibit located at The Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, CA. The event would be nationally televised.Mr. Stark has won several competitions and scholarships in voice, including Opera Columbus Vocal Competition, The Brentwood Artist of Tomorrow Competition, Sun Valley Opera Competiton, Westwood Vocal Competition, Burbank Aria Competition, The Palm Springs Opera Guild Aria Competition, The Pasadena Opera Guild Competition, The Opera Buffs competition, the Classical Singers Association Aria Competition and was the San Diego, CA district winner for the National Metropolitan Opera Competition.Mr. Stark holds a bachelors and masters degree in opera performance from California State University, Long Beach and an Artist Diploma from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music (CCM). He has studied voice with Dr. Lewis Woodward, Dr. Cherrie Llewellyn, Ms. Shigemi Matsumoto and Mr. Kenneth Shaw.
