The Orb + Orchard Lounge
at POSTPONED! - Door at 8pm - All Ages Welcome
..
Due to personal reasons, the upcoming tour for The Orb will be postponed. All within the camp are looking forward to making their long anticipated return to the US and plan to deliver nothing less than an experience their fans deserve. With a new album on the horizon, The Orb hope to provide newly rescheduled dates as soon as possible and are excited about what is to come.
....The Orb, for years the most fearlessly fascinating sonic marauders on this or any other planet, are set to return in September with a new album marking a long-awaited reunion between eternal mainstay Dr Alex Paterson and lifelong friend and original inter-galactic conspirator Youth.
The Dream sees a return to the original spirit which spawned the first two classic albums, The Orb's Adventures In The Ultraworld and U.F. Orb. Working with former Dreadzone studio-wiz Tim Bran and a gaggle of guests, Alex and Youth have created a work of stunning beauty and immediacy while never losing sight of The Orb's original quest to homage personal musical obsessions while exploring sonic territories few dare to tread. One of those rare albums which weaves its own unique magic after repeated listens.

MTV Online says about Navdeep: "In a music scene quick to throw around the title of 'DJ' to anyone who simply masters the fader, it is refreshing to see someone take two records, break the songs down, and patch them back together into a tapestry of luscious grooves and head-noddin' rhythms."
"Yaathra is literature set to music..." -Houston Press
"From start to finish, Yaathra takes the listener on a transglobal journey..." -Ethnotecho.com (4.5 out of 5 stars)
"...infectious piano hooks complementing the likes of DJ SHADOW...This IS the best of the best in NYC." - Asianvibrations.com (9 out of 10)
Voted Best DJ in New York by New York Press magazine
The visionary DJ/producer/turntablist/tabla player brings raw passion to the decks, turning crowds on continuously with a stylish melange that slides from South Asian sonics and his native Bhangra rhythms to hard-hitting DnB, pounding hip-hop cuts and fragments of furious rock. Fusing together refined mixing with ecstatic live shows, Navdeep never makes it easy to categorize himself or his sound. Always evolving, always bringing the hottest beats no matter the genre, Navdeep is one of the scene's most innovative talents. After celebrating the international success of his brilliant debut album Yaathra, Navdeep is ready to bring it back to where it all started from, NYC for the next chapter. From full length album to hyper singles, haunting ambient soundtrack scores, and critically praised remixes for hip-hop MCs and electronica stars like Karsh Kale, Navdeep's original production concepts give his legions of fans a fresh sound that's equal parts Indian classicism, NY hip-hop grit and charged electronica messages.Couple that innovation with Navdeep's intense studies of jazz and tabla drumming since the age of ten and you have one of the most distinctive approaches to production and turntablism in the game today. To see Navdeep spin is to witness a soul-moving performance. Layering his own self-produced tracks, unique remixes and live drumming over his sets, Navdeep is the sound of the brave new world-innovative, multi-ethnic, and all the way live.

In this often reflexive and world-weary era of popular music, there seems little room for unabashed wonder, or joy without suspicion. Some regrettable fear planted within each of us around the 7th grade or thereabouts still makes it hard to dance, hard to hold hands, hard to say “I love you,†at least without a quick caveat or escape route at the ready. Over the course of three records, the last two on Sub Pop (2003’s Mouthfuls and 2005’s Spelled in Bones), Eric D. Johnson’s Fruit Bats have looked for ways to file down the cynical edge of modern life and found many. Using bright melodies, defiantly major-key chord structures, natural imagery mixed with the occasional blazing insight and tender observation, the Fruit Bats have never shied away from darkness, but more uncommon in this day and age, they’ve refused to shy away from light. With The Ruminant Band, this tradition continues in characteristically rich and involving fashion. Consider the title: it’s no coincidence or shortcut that the name of the second track was plucked to represent the album as a whole. “Band†is the operative word here, as the Fruit Bats lineup has expanded to five, who in turn expand the sonic scope of Johnson’s songs to include the barn-floor stomp of “The Hobo Girl†and the Fleetwood Mac-esque shimmy of the title track. On a recent message to fans on the band’s website, Johnson promised on behalf of the Bats, “We are going to choogle for you.†And while the potential for chooglin’ has always existed in some form all the way back to Johnson’s earliest 4-track experiments, The Ruminant Band sees it flower in full.

..Just in time for their 10-year anniversary, MONO return with their fifth studio album, the absolutely massive Hymn To The Immortal Wind. After touring almost non-stop for five years, the band hibernated for over a year to focus solely on writing Hymn. The result is their most thoughtful and eclectic album to date. Written and arranged with a hopeful, romantic narrative in mind, the songs string together like chapters in an epic love story. The music is naturally majestic, with MONO’s trademark wall of noise crashing beautifully against the largest chamber orchestra the band has ever enlisted. The instrumentation is vast, incorporating strings, flutes, organ, piano, glockenspiel and tympani into their standard face-melting set-up.Recorded to analog tape with long-time friend and producer Steve Albini, there is an intimacy captured here that is at once beautiful and a little terrifying. The creaking of old wooden chairs as the orchestra rocks in their seats (both literally and figuratively), puckered lips rolling along flutes, and even the conductor’s opening cue can be heard during the hauntingly quiet opening momentsWhile Hymn continues to mine the cinematic drama inherent in all of MONO's music, the dynamic shifts now come more from dark-to-light instead of quiet-to-loud. The maturity to balance these elements so masterfully has become MONO’s strongest virtue.Jeremy deVine _Temporary Residence Limited

Ra Ra Riot formed in 2006, playing at houses and venues around the Syracuse University campus. The band started to attract attention due to their energetic live shows, enough to gain an appearance at the CMJ Music Marathon, fewer than six months after their formation. Following this appearance, their live show received the first of several favorable reviews from SPIN.com, who called them "one of the best young bands we've heard in a really long time".[1] They went on to open for Art Brut and Bow Wow Wow in New York City, toured the UK twice on their own,[2] then returned, opening for the Editors[3] (footage of which can be found on Crackle); they also toured North America supporting Tokyo Police Club. Their first solo headlining tour of the U.S. was completed in 2007, and in early 2008, they embarked on a second.[4] The band was also invited to play the Iceland Airwaves Festival, in ReykjavÃk, Iceland. They have recorded three sessions on the national online radio station WOXY and two for the acclaimed[5] Daytrotter sessions at Futureappletree studio 1 in Rock Island, Illinois.
