Easily bored, easily distracted--I've got to keep my mind working and experiencing new things. In music I like artists who can tackle big subjects in honest and original ways--if you can slap a big-ass guitar groove underneath it then I'll love you even more. To me, the best music being made today is coming out of the South and Southwest. Bands like The Drive-By Truckers, Slobberbone, and Calexico are writing incredibly rich, textured music that with insightful creative lyrics. This is a great time to be a music fan. I also love singer-songwriters like Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark. Basically, if the music sounds like the artist sat down and said what they HAD to say rather than what they think I want to hear, I'm going to like it. Be an artist first, not just an entertainer!
I also love good books. I just got through reading a 3 vol. bio of Andrew Jackson and now I'm reading Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls as well as a non-fiction study of animal emotions.
Other interests: gardening with native flowers, good food and better beer--Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA is God's own beer--camping, hiking, and fishing, etc. I'm a history buff and this combines with a pack-rat mentality to make me a collector of old objects. I've got about 500 glass insulators going back to the 1870s, numerous fruit-jars with some going back to the Civil War era, and many bottles with my oldest being from around 1700.
