“It was an accident” SOL CANELA says of her rapping. “I was trying to put music behind my spoken word and I realized it wasn’t natural so instead as I heard the beat loop, I wrote a song”. But as we know there are no accidents in music and 7 years later we present to you SOL CANELA, with her creatively colorful flow and a vibrant voice filled with passion. At times her rhymes are insightful and thoughtful… at other times direct, assertive and in your face . SOL CANELA is a chameleon in the rap world and beyond.
SOL CANELA didn’t plan to be a rapper. As a matter of fact she was set on being an actress and dancer. “If you would have told me I was going to be a rapper, I would have laughed” SOL CANELA says playfully. But fate and destiny had other plans.
SOL CANELA, born Joselyn Mirabal, is a trained actress and professional dancer. She has worked in television, film and theater. She was part of the Spanish Repertory Theater (Repertorio Español) in New York City in the play “Marido Encadenado” (Chained Dog by Rob Santana and directed by Arian Blanco). She appeared in a comedic short at the New York Latino Film Festival titled “How Big Is It?” directed by Inez P. Guillen which is available online for viewing at cinedulce.com . She finished filming a TV Pilot ‘Bodies of Work’ directed and written by Jorge C.Perez where she is credited as actress and co-producer.
She is a drama graduate of the prestigious FAME school, La Guardia Performing Arts High School in New York City and holds a B.A. in Communications from Hunter College.
In the summer of 2004 she was chosen to perform with National Dance Institute (NDI). She traveled to Shanghai, China in a multicultural exchange where she contributed her talents as a dancer and choreographer under the direction of the great American ballet dancer and choreographer Jacques D’Amboise. They performed at the Shanghai Grand Theater, which holds one of the biggest and most advanced stages in Asia and even the whole world.
SOL CANELA was invited to participate in the recording of the album “Don’t Get It Twisted” by SON CALLEJERO in 2003 (nominated to Premio Lo Nuestro/Univision). She toured with them for a year and gained invaluable experience onstage as an MC. Her recordings also appear on Underground mixtapes in NY, Spain and Dominican Republic.
SOL CANELA is currently the lead model for the EVOLVED ATHLETIC clothing line by Ian Haynes. She just finished filming her first music video directed by Inez P. Guillen where she is featured alongside artists EL INDIO of SON CALLEJERO/Cutting Records and Vocalist/Producer MARCOS.

Joselyn Mirabal, mejor conocida en el ambiente musical como SOL CANELA, empezó su carrera por "puro accidente". "Estaba escribiendo poesías y me vino la idea de grabarlas sobre melodías y así nació mi primera canción..por puro accidente" afirma ella. Pero como sabemos, en la vida nunca hay accidentes si no situaciones las cuales abren caminos a otro destinos. Y 7 años despues la presentamos con su creativo y colorido estilo, vibrante voz y siempre con pura pasión.
SOL CANELA no solo es candela en el microfono, ella tambien es actríz de teatro, cine y television. Formó parte del elenco "Marido Encadenado"en el Repertorio Español . Aparece en el NY Latino Film Festival en la pelicula (comedic short) "How Big Is It" dirigida por Inéz Guillén. Reciente termina la filmacion del TV pilot 'Bodies of Work' dirigida por Jorge C. Perez donde incluye creditos como actríz y co-productora.
Joselyn Mirabal es graduada en drama de la prestigiosa escula FAME: La Guardia Performing Arts High School y tiene licenciatura en Comunicaciones de Hunter College.
Tambien con el National Dance Insitute (NDI), ella viajo a la China en el 2004 y formó parte en un intercambio cultural. Joselyn participó como bailarina/coreógrafa al gran bailarín de ballet y coreógrafo Jacques D'Amboise.
SOL CANELA fue invitada a participar en la grabación del album "Don't Get It Twisted" de Son Callejero (nominados a Premio Lo Nuestro/Univision). Sus grabaciones tambien aparecen en CD's de combinaciones de Underground, España y la República Dominicana.
Y que mas podemos esperar de esta gran artista? "Mi primer video musical que estoy ansiosamente terminando, mi primer album y muchas mas sorpresas...ssshhh" dice riendose y nosotros tambien esperamos... ansiosamente.
