Movies:
So check this out this great new documentary called Before The Music Dies.
FilmConcept:
Authentic music in America is locked in an ever-tightening death grip. Factors ranging from the formulization of the music industry, dominance of big box retail outlets, and the monopolization of media companies are squeezing the life out of musical independence in America. The creativity and risk-taking that historically cultivated our countrys most unique styles and talents is now being replaced with a profit-driven formula that mass-produces cookie-cutter music and artists.
Before the Music Dies is a documentary film that closely examines the major industry trends that are seemingly leading to the death of musical individuality in America:
Formulization of the music industry.
Dominance of big box retailers.
Monopolization of media outlets.
The result? If consolidation means that no one will take risks, and local markets are losing their individual voices and outlets, then there is no traditional vehicle left to connect the American public with new musical trends or the unique artists who develop them. In the country that gave the world gospel, blues, rockabilly, bluegrass, jazz, rock and roll, rap, grunge and hip-hop, we fear that were witnessing the death of new ideas and new creative forces in music.
The film leaves viewers not with a sense of dread, but with a sense of optimism that despite the current state of the industry, original music will never die.
