Curtis Byrd was born fourth in a family of six to a gospel evangelist in Chicago and a grandson to renowned singer Wesley Long.
Byrd was blessed early with an astounding musical ear and began drumming at a young age sitting on a stack of phone books behind the drums of the children's church choir. At age fourteen, Byrd joined a gospel band and began to play with his grandfather's band, Son of Jones. He started an original stick show for school pep rallies, which took off, expanding to other local schools, and soon began giving drum lessons to children and teens ages 11-16.
Byrd continued to play drums in church throughout his adolescence and joined the school marching band in fourth grade where he continued to play every year until he graduated from Hudson Bay High school in Vancouver, Washington.
Byrd has worked as a full-time drummer touring in Washington and Oregon with Moon Dog & Linda Hornbuckle Band and played alongside the great Bernard Purdy. While in Seattle, he attended the Art Institute of Seattle completing courses in Music Business Program.
Byrd no resides in Los Angeles, CA., doing what he he was meant to do - travel the world with amazing bands/artists (such as Baby Bash, Paula de Anda, Key Francis, Shaun Kama, Bus Boys, Emily Clibourn, etc..) and performing onstage behind the drums (Byrd plays MAPEX drums).
