About Me

Coming out of a small urban hot spot deep inside the Arctic, TURDUS MUSICUS, has paved the way for northern-norwegian heavy music since the late 90's. With no hardcore scene within hundreds of miles, these young guns practically invented their own hardcore-esque genre based on an explosive, mashed up brew of influences, ranging from alt. rock masters Helmet, post-hardcore innovators At The Drive-In, 90's swedish hardcore a la Refused/Breach and american (post-/)hardcore a la Snapcase/Quicksand.
The band was quickly recognized as one of Norway's raddest live bands, gaining hysterical acclaim both from their expanding underground fanbase and the press for their out-of-control, explosive live shows. In between releasing their widely appraised debut EP "Intimate Noise" in 2001 and their long awaited debut album "Here Goes!" in 2004 they toured extensively in Norway with most of the biggest national rock acts, headlined by:larm (the norwegian equivalent of SXSW) two times, featured music in international snow/skatefilms and much more.
In 2007 they released the follow-up album "Rockcollapse", "one of the best norwegian rock albums ever", according to Norway Rock Magazine. It was produced by Tommy Hjelm, who had allready gained some legend-status within the hardcore scene due to his producing efforts on JR Ewing's "Ride Paranoid" and he followed up on TM's most heavy album to date.
Inspired by the national momentum the band stepped up and went out to to tour the United States for the first time later in 2007. Coast-to-coast, 10.000 miles, 35 shows with support of Karl Alvarez (Descendents) new band Underminer. While on the road the band were so fortunate to be invited (well, invited themselves) into legendary Blasting Room Studios in Ft. Collins Colorado to record a single track with famed producer Jason Livermore (Rise Against, NOFX, Descendents, Comeback Kid), ending up having to come back the year after to finish up their fourthcoming full-length album. The first video off the album is allready out ("A Shot Of Inspiration") - directed by Sundance-award winner/snowboardcinematography legend Rich Goodwin. Back in Norway the band was hired to headline Norway's premiere rock festival HOVE's kick off tour along side surfpunks Pirate Love, in addition to a a slot at the festival alongside Bad Religion, Rival Schools and Cavalera Conspiracy. They also go invited to play China's equivalent of Woodstock, the MIDI festival, and put on a mini tour of China in may 2008, to this day one of the raddest experiences the band has shared. Later in 08 they headed back to the US to tour the west coast yet again with Underminer and The Logan (feat Conor Logan of Shelter fame) before entering Blasting Room Studios to finish up their new album with producer Jason Livermore.
The new album (title to be announced) is due for release in august 2009. It is by far the most aggressive and heavy release by the Tromsø foursome to date, displaying their unique and trademark blend of hardcore, punk and metal with conscience and blatant conviction. It is Turdus Musicus looking back and honoring their own legacy but at the same time laying waste to the past and setting their eyes on the times to come. And the future looks very bright indeed.
Turdus Musicus will tour China with Chinese punk legends TOOKOO and Boston hardcore heroes HAVE HEART in May 2009 plus the occational one-off shows here and there before embarking on an extensive tour to promote the new album in August 2009 and beyond.
Stay tuned for more!
Our good friend and one of punk rock's finest, Karl Alvarez of Underminer/Descendents/All, suffered a minor heart attack last year. Since punk rock offers no health insurance in the US the M.I. left the Bass Master General in debt. Click on the banner, get involved!
