BIOGRAPHY
As far as I can remember I've had a love affair with music. I started working on a plan to create a way into the business before I graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, TX. I knew it would take being in the right place and meeting the right people to make something happen. You go to LA for movies and in 98' you went to NYC for music, before ATL started boomin. Luckily I had the opportunity to go to school at PENN STATE..4 hrs driving from NYC and 2 hrs from PHilly. At Penn State aside from creating Boiling Point Records, I started Collaboration of Mics a local hip hop showcase for students to perform and promote their music. 5 shows in 4 semesters..countless memories...LOL.
THE INTERN
Paying Dues Aint' EASY!!!!
I got my start in the legitimate music industry interning for Todd Wolfe at Antra Records in Philadelphia, PA. I had enough money to rent a small basement studio apartment in West Philly. After not having much except a chess board and my boombox I learned how to deal with the struggle of chasing a check in the music biz. I jumped at every opportunity to make new contacts and learn more about the biz so when Rosalynn Law introduced as a great candidate for a college marketing position I ate it up. WEA was Warner, Elektra, Atlantic and with the help of Chris Washington (Capitol Records) I was in the mix, making sure the local radio stations and clubs had all the hot records.
NYC
Moving to the big manzana....WOW. I got a call to work with Sean Bouldin at Dreamworks Urban...RIP.. LOL. Sad how labels come and go once your in the game for a minute...and before I knew what was going on I met some of the hottest people in the industry..I was introduced to K.Black @ INterscope...Savalas Holloway and great young artists Floetry and Swizz Beats. Hustlin in the game for little to no money and living in South Jersey and commuting to the city was no joke..but that taught me about sacrifice and paying dues...
GOD's PLAN
So I left NYC for my senior year @ Penn State but my heart and mind was focused on making a name for myself in the music industry..I knew being away at school cut me out the loop. I prayed and put my trust in God and my faith paid off with an internship for President of Def Jam Kevin Liles.
IDJ
This was the most intense and exhilirating experience of my career. Here I was at 49th and 8th Ave..The hottest label on the planet and here I am working for the most powerful black executive in the business. Everyday I began my trek from LOng Island or South Jersey to Manhattan @ 6am. Arriving at 7, I had to get Mr.LIles book prepared with all the latest scoundscan and BDS for every artist on our roster plus others who were making noise. Working with wonderful people like Cheryl Singleton and Amber Noble made the stressful constant grind a great experience. Shaking hands with HOV, chillin with Meth and riding in DMX's lowrider was amazing. I met some the best people in the industry and learn alot about what was possible in this game.
A&R RESEARCH
So I parlayed my way to the A&R dept. with Tina Davis and Eric Nicks to name a few. A&R is no joke everyday ..everyone is workin on new records..getting mixes done and finding great new talent. I learned the ins and outs of making a record..and busted my ass to create a forum for young and coming producers. In the back of mind....I'm ready to make a move...lets do this!!
SOLID PROJECTS
On My Own, Gotta Make It Happen!!
Every man must decide to work for someone or create a dynasty for himself. I chose to build mine from the ground up. I wanted to build a company that stood for the hottest new talent in the business. I've searched and listened to countless musician and producers. I can say without a doubt..that there is no hotter company in the business than Solid Projects. Grinding errrr day running to labels, placing songs/ beats with A&R's, always chasing checks...we in the big boy leagues!! We are focused on songwriting and production but we're always working on licensing and publishing opportunities. I work with the best producers and writers in the industry. I love meeting people who are in the business with a story to tell. I'm thrilled to see where my journey takes me. Its all God's Plan and I cant wait to see where he leads me.
ADVICE
Keep God first! Expect nothing from anyone, and work harder today than you did yesterday. Stay humble and focused; music is our profession, treat it as one. It's an honor to create the soundtrack to people's lives!
