MIRAK came to the U.S. in 1989 to wreak havoc on the microphone. He came to the heart of HIP HOP, the Bronx. 1989 was the year of Big Daddy Kane, Eric B. and Rakim, Brand Nubian, Das EFX, EPMD. MIRAK’s first influences in music, though was the church. MIRAK started out singing lead in the church and school choirs. In the early 90’s the Dogg Pound, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Tupac and whole west coat came into play. The gangsta rap era! MIRAK said after hearing the WHUT album from Redman “it was a wrapâ€. The album was one of the best hardcore albums to ever grace the stores. This album had him feeling like he need to get a piece of the musical genre. He started writing poetry, poetry turned into lyrics. Then Outkast came out and everything changed in the music industry. He continued to grow in music and formed a group called the Killa K’s. Yeah, I know it sounded kind of corny, but, hey these dudes were lyrical killers. The crew consisted of K-mal, Kinetic and MIRAK went by the name of Konflic at that time. They were doing their thing in the underground circuit and building a name for themselves along with other artist from their camp called the ONE ROOM SHACK with in house producer Meach Beats. Then it all happened, every body just went their separate ways. MIRAK went away to school, Meach moved to NC, K-Mal got locked up and nobody has heard from Kinetic in many years. MIRAK left the music alone and focused on school and sports in college. MIRAK spend a year at Howard University where he got the vibe again to start writing, which was short live. It was hard to juggle 6 classes a full baseball schedule and music. MIRAK said “I thought I was going to be a professional baseball player, which would have been possible if it were not for an elbow injuryâ€. With the baseball dreams now over, he focused on his studies and got a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. Sports, was still in his blood so he continued to follow his dream in another sport. This time it was football, after training and hitting the GYM, MIRAK tried out for and made a Professional Arena football team. There was still something missing in his life. That was music, so he started writing again in 2006 after seeing the state that HIP HOP was in. He got back in the studio and started recording. He hit the underground open mics and dedicated his time to becoming one of the best artists. While most Rapper focused on metaphors MIRAK focused his skills on the art of song writing. MIRAK entered a showcase at Club Avalon and came in second. That made him even hungrier and more focused. Second place is not acceptable. He hit the studio where he penned the smash hit single “Bigger Than Youâ€. When asked the meaning of that song, MIRAK stated†this song was a dedication to everyone that felt that they are bigger than life and it also lets people know that, no matter what you are going through in life there is some one out their going through something much bigger than your issuesâ€.
