Red Ghetto Sun

About Me

Using hardcore as a base for exploring and combining other diverse influences, this San Francisco trio seamlessly weave sample loops, piano and melody on a level that pre-dated its now prevalent use in the hard-heavy genre. The group originally formed in 1999 with founding chemist Joe Pacheco downtuning his guitar to bowel shaking levels. After a lineup mistep and a techno inspired demo, a true sound finally emerged with the addition of Ian Petitpren on Bass and Mike Carlington on drums. After a two year run playing clubs, festivals with an independent single release with then fledgeling UK label Super-Fi Records, the band went their separate ways in 2002 to pursue other projects. Forward to 2005 and despite a 3 year hiatus, the group doesn't lose a step and quickly record a 5 song EP that grooves with a more darker sound. Like a zombie flick where the undead rises to tend to unfinished business, the Red Ghetto Sun returns once more to wreak sonic vengeance on the collective ear of a dying civilization.
