Up from the rabbit hole...

About Me

I'm an artist. I was born in New Orleans and have spent most of my life there. I am currently staying in LaPlace a small suburban town about 20 miles from down town New Orleans. Had to move after the storm.
Pop culture is the soil and mulch that my garden is planted in and the fruit that it produces are the ideas I make my paintings with.
I have been creating art my entire life. At one year of age my mother handed me a piece of paper and said, “Draw mom a picture.” A few moments later I handed her a perfect line drawing of a light bulb. I have no memory of this, but it seems at that moment I had the grand idea that I would be an artist for the rest of my life.
My paintings are flat and I always look at photos painstakingly recreating them in my own vision. I sing with color, and an old yellow photo my grandmother left me, or a cyber picture I found on MySpace, and sometimes even an image I captured from my television screen choreographs my dance.
I usually paint happy pleasant images but there may be things that I paint which are traditionally viewed negatively like materialism, sexism, violence, or some other nasty ism, but I don’t want to pass judgment. I don’t want to be objective either. I hope to be compassionate for the image. Most importantly I want to listen to the image and hear all it has to say and be true to its voice. Sometimes I paint a picture of the same image dozens of times because I feel like I missed something, or I just haven’t labored for the image enough.
Thank you for taking a look at MySpace. I wish you the best.Gallery AffiliationThe Artist Market
