About Me

www.freyaolafson.com /// // // //////// /// /// /// /////Freya Björg Olafson is an interdisciplinary artist who works with video, audio and performance. Her creations have been presented/exhibited nationally as well as internationally. Including the Plug In Institute for Contemporary Art (Winnipeg), Interaccess Electronic Media Arts Center (Toronto), Winnipeg Art Gallery, Núna (now) Festival (Winnipeg, Toronto, Iceland), Groundswell New Music Series (Winnipeg), O.K. Centrum (Linz, Austria), Akureyravaka (Akureyri, Iceland) and Springboard Danse Montréal among others. Currently with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, Manitoba Arts Council and Winnipeg Arts Council, Freya is creating a new work called “Avatar” in collaboration with new media/performance artist Pierre Andrieux from France. This project is being developed in residency at Performing Arts Forum, in St.Erme-Outre-et-Ramecourt, France and at SIM – Icelandic Association for Visual Artists, in Reykjavik, Iceland. “Avatar” will premiere in Winnipeg as part of the nuna (now) festival, April 28th – May 2nd, 2009. As performer and creator, Freya blends 6 years classical training in the Professional Program of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet with the contemporary facility achieved through her completion of the Bachelor of Arts Honors degree in dance jointly offered by the School of Contemporary Dancers and the University of Winnipeg. She combines her finesse in movement with the directness of her performance art, video and theory studies from the University of Manitoba School of Art and her subsequent completion of a Master of Fine Arts Degree in New Media from the Transart Institute / Donau Universitat in Krems, Austria (Graduated August 2007). // // /////// / / / //////// //// // You should create your own MySpace Layouts like me by using nUCLEArcENTURy .COM's MySpace Profile Editor !Photos of new work in process::::::::::::::::::::: performed at Studio 303 in Montreal, March 1st, 2008::::::

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Below are images from my 25 min solo performance (it also exists as a 45 min work) entitled "New Icelander". "New Icelander" has been presented by Nuna (now) in Winnipeg, performed at the O.K. Centrum as part of the Transart Institute Summer Residency in Linz, Austria, at the Winnipeg Art Gallery as part of a group show called Subconscious City co-curated by Shawna Demspey and Lorri Millan as well as at the Drake Hotel in Toronto as part of A Taste of Iceland. The following are images from Winnipeg's Contemporary Dancers final show of the season 2005/2006, choreographed by Sharon Moore. I participated as performer aswell as provided artwork for the poster and exhibition. The performance was a walk-about where the audience was lead to various locations in and around the historical Exchange District in Winnipeg by the dancers Natasha Torres-Garner, Jennifer Essex, Paula Blair, Brent Lott and myself.
