I am second famous son of actor Martin Sheen, My real name is Carlos Estevez. I have gained almost as much fame for my off-screen antics as for my on-screen roles. Surprisingly I have managed to weather the storm of controversy that has followed me in recent years to emerge as a successful TV star, and a very popular guest on the talk show circuits.I was born in 1965. My interest in movies was not only peaked by my famous father, but also by several like-minded students from my high school days at Santa Monica, students like Rob Lowe and Sean Penn, who became future stars themselves.
It wasn't until 1984, however, that I got my first big break in a major film, starring alongside fellow up-and-comers Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson and Jennifer Grey in the WWIII drama Red Dawn. The film was a mild success, and was my first contact with the war genre, where only 2 years later I made the biggest splash of my career. In 1984, I was blessed with a daughter, Cassandra.
A supporting role in the coming-of-age film Lucas (1986) and a memorable cameo in the teen-classic Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) preceded my big Hollywood breakthrough. I was tagged by Oliver Stone for the lead role in his epic Platoon (1986), which would later win the Oscar. I was the moral center of one of the most realistic depictions of the Vietnam War to ever come out. The performance was a milestone in my career.
I worked with Stone again a year later to produce Wall Street. I played a young stock market hot-shot who's seduced by his mentor, This film was personal triumph for me and allowed me to work alongside my father, Martin Sheen (who played my dad in the picture).Other successes came in the next couple of years, with films like Young Guns, Eight Men Out, and Major League. Then came the hard times. Poor signing choices led to a series of slumps with films like Men at Work, Navy Seals, Cadence, and The Rookie. These films did little for my career. It seemed like I was trying to establish an image as an action hero, but the public wasn't buying it.I was able to successfully mock my tough guy image with roles in the hit parodies Hot Shots! and Hot Shots! Part Deux, but personal problems--as well as continually poor roles--led to a downward spiral in my professional life. In 1995, I was called in to testify in the trial of notorious "Hollywood Madam" Heidi Fleiss, where I had to admit to being a frequent customer, and to having spent over $50,000 for the services of prostitutes. By the time I was hospitalized for drug and alcohol abuse in 1998, my bad-boy image was cemented in stone. Two years later and completely sober, I became one of the great comeback stories of the entertainment business as I was lucky engough to land the lead role of Michael J. Fox's replacement in the hit TV series "Spin City." There, I managed to reinvent my image and earned a second chance at success. This was the turning point in my life as I finally found focus. After the end of Spin City, I then was lucky enough to meet the love of my life, Denise Richards. We immediately fell in love. However, problems occurred and we were forced to separate for a period of time. It was at this time that I started a new role in the CBS hit Two and a Half Men with my long time friend John Cryer. The show immediately became a success and allowed me the freedom to express myself, without the confines of the silver screen.
