10 POINT TOKYO

About Me

Like a musical investment, 10 POINT TOKYO’S music engages the listener with songs within songs: changes that weave complex and straight up at the same time, in-your-face blasts of rock combined with whispering subtleties that aren’t always caught the first time around. Influences including Poison Idea, Queens of the Stone Age, Curtis Mayfield and Patsy Cline serve as the foundation for their collage of rock, a powerful and intense mesh of punk and metal, old-school soul with a dash of old fashioned country.
10 POINT TOKYO is a story of perseverance. The journey was embarked upon in 2004, and started as a gleam in guitarist Tyler AP’s eye. Well-known as one of the fastest and hardest players in the NW, formerly of acclaimed punk outfits North American Bison, Millhous, and the heavy and hard Hell Promise, AP had been touring and opening for bands like Green Day, Mastodon, Presidents of the USA, D.O.A. and The Melvins, but always yearned for a project based on music that was his own, music that broke outside the box of the furious punk rock for which he was known. He began writing and recording all parts of his songs and finally decided it was time to put this band together, to make this dream happen.
First in was popular Seattle punk-rock drummer, and AP’s former Millhous compatriot, Barry, the drummer he knew could not only get the sound down, but transform the parts into a living, heaving rhythm. Next was Lopez Island’s own guitar savant, Saijo Burleson, who studied Jazz guitar and was spreading his surf-punk through the islands of Puget Sound. Many ads and word-of-mouth within the Seattle music scene brought a slew of talented and enthusiastic vocalists through the band’s practice room doors, but the boys had a vision of what the right voice would sound like. One day in walked Shep, who spent the 90’s reviving the metal scene in Alaska and opening for the likes of Motley Crue. The band had found someone who could capture the range and soul of Tokyo.
Ah, the bass player, there have been many – think Spinal Tap and their drummers. After 3 years of active searching at long last came Mike, a touring pro who had enjoyed success with former bands, playing in front of as many as 35,000 people and opening for bands like Slayer, KISS, Creed and Papa Roach. Mike brought the chops and persona needed to fill out Tokyo. With everything clicked into place, the band has been firing on all cylinders, merging their talents, wit, experience and dedication. They’re determined to weave the 10 POINT TOKYO sound into the music scene of today and the future. Always at-the-ready to push things to the next level, this hard-working band takes pride in every drop of sweat shed in support of their music.
