DJ ANONYMOUS 2 ... DeeJay, Promoter, Entrepreneur.......
By Shaam Jones | ITL Partners
Names are not really important, quips the infamous mobile mixer when quizzed about the origins behind selecting his unusual moniker. DJ Anonymous 2 has sacrificed the so-called name fame envisioning bringing that feel good vibe back to music. He remarks, its not really about me. Im a DJ. Who I am, is not nearly as important, as what Im playing and whether it gets the party started. And keeps it going. It's really all about the music and educating these younger folks on the art form of turntablism. Thats my motivation and focus. Period.
In the bling-bling obsessed industry, fortune and fame have become fools gold. The shine of the spotlight has caused many artists to lose focus. Todays DJs are megastars, from on-air radio and video personalities to platinum recording artists / producers with label deals. I want to bring the fun and respect back, he notes about the musics lost of creativity to commercialization.
Born in Brooklyn, and reared in its Fort Greene projects and South Jamaica Queens, his creative mission began in the mid-70s as a graffiti artist named "Rum 568", etching his aerosol art on the moving canvases of NYCs subways. Known for his adventurous turntable wizardry, eclectic grooves, old-school break beats and fusion of mainstream and underground joints. He is a throwback to a greater era, the jams in the park, graffiti and break dancing the embodiment of Hip Hop.
Blending an infectious mix of funk, reggae, r&b, hip-hop, rock and everything in between, he's an O.G. (original groover). Influenced by Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Flash and Kool Herc. Hes amassed a dedicated, growing following and counts his appearance in Salt & Pepa's classic video "Shoop" amongst his most memorable of experiences to date. His talents for spinning on the turntables while simultaneously rocking the microphone quickly made him a favorite at house parties, lofts, bars and nightclubs. And after two decades these remain his favorite spots, because they keep me up close and personal with my listeners.
DJ Anonymous 2, in spite of the name, has become infamous affirming, "I never chased that bittersweet 15 minutes of fame or wanted to be the man of the hour. My career has been like clockwork. I intend to use all 24 hours". Keeping himself too busy to develop a celebrity ego, DJ Anonymous 2 can usually be found spinning whatever, wherever the music takes him.
