About Me

LaVonna Marie Young was born and raised in Southern California of black and Crete/ Blackfoot Native American heritage. She attended Hollywood High Performing Arts alongside such famous classmates as the R&B singer Brandy. Although she was a jazz/modern dance major, she quickly began to tailor and master her natural God-given songwriting abilities. A few years earlier, during her junior high school years in Carson, California she had been taken under the wing of producers and friends of her famous grandfather, 50's and 60's rocker Thurston Harris ("Little Bitty Pretty One"). Her demos they produced accompanied with an impressive audition won her a spot as a student at Hollywood Performing Arts. Soon, LaVonna began sneaking away from school (which she doesn't reccomend) to audition and perform at dance clubs like The Arena. At The Arena, Lavonna successfully worked a gig as a sexy go-go dancer untill eventually captivating audiences with her origonal dance track performances. Her sultry vocal style, catchy lyrics, and intimate chord progressions began to catch the ears of the masses; an ever growing following who still listen to her music today. Who would of thought that she wrote and composed her music herself, even making her own beats! After those electric club scene days, LaVonna began fronting a punk band called "LaVodka".LaVodka performed energetic sold out shows at live music venues such as The Whiskey, The Troubador, as well as private parties. Later, while playing a solo act at a benefit show for homeless youth, LaVonna caught the eyes of producer/recording artist Chris Kleiner, who fell in love with her Counting Crowe's cover, "Round Here". Her elegant piano arrangement, blending majestically with her soulful, crooning vocals won funding for non-profit organization grants in her first EP titled modestly, "Pianogirl". Pianogirl shows LaVonna's true, real, raw ability to pin down a song stripped in nude accompaniment. Her origonal compositions titled "Lies" and "Reasons", her clever lyrics candidly give you a glimpse of who this girl really is. "Enough about me/ lets talk about you/ let's see how grand you are" she sings while tickling the keys of a grand piano. While serving the community as a certified outreach specialist, LaVonna wrote, composed, and arranged her latest album titled "Miss Unusual", produced by herself with the phenominal Craig Adams. Miss Unusual contains two of this reporters personal favorite titles; "Beautiful" and the Spanish/English dance rocker "Todavia". In both songs, she plays all the instruments herself, beat machine included. Miss Unusual stresses the importance of inner beauty, which became a passion of LaVonna's after modeling for Verizon Wireless ads and runways in Las Vegas. The dance track Beautiful is played in nightclubs and parties all over the world. Her pop/rock hit "As We Breathe" with her good friend Scott Taylor on bass and Brent on drums, whom she met through her friend Calista Carradine ("Paint" & "Beggin For Love") shows her amazing ability to be serious and sexy all at the same time. The singer also remains extremely supportive of her friends, family, and fellow musicians; the only reason why I decided to name drop in this candid report. LaVonna is so creative, that she always has us wondering what she's going to do next. One thing for sure, her next musical project will be along the lines of her usual; fun, sexy, smart, and done with class. - Emelia Burchett (Alladin Research & Management) MyGen Profile Generator
