About Me

BRAD CALEB KANE BIO
With an unerring aim for the heart of a song, an impressive stylistic range and the credentials of a truly gifted musician, Brad Caleb Kane makes a convincing case for the expressive potential of original and meaningful pop on his Love Lane Records debut album entitled “This Day In History.”
“I’m fascinated with the idea of pop classicism,” remarks the New York native. “There’s a real art to writing a totally engaging, completely accessible, three and a half minute tune. Those are the songs that endure, and that’s what I always strive to create. My idols are people like John Lennon, Cat Stevens, Paul Simon -- anyone with a guitar and a point of view. If I could ever write songs as universal and unique as those guys…”
It’s that timeless aesthetic that sets This Day in History apart. Richly nuanced and emotionally resonant, the songs of Brad Caleb Kane have staying power, that rare ability to make themselves a part of a listener’s life.
Produced by Matt Wallace (Maroon 5), This Day in History features Kane ..boards, guitar and vocals, performing such consummately crafted originals as “This Close”, ”Out There“ and “In Your Own Way.” “My songs are pretty much all autobiographical,” he explains, “but by the time I’ve gotten them out of my head and into the real world, they seem to pick up lots of new reference points.”
In that way, the music of Brad Caleb Kane shares much with the life of its creator: a wide range of influences that have come together with surprising results. Something of a musical prodigy, Kane shares creative genes with his mother, a one-time singer at the legendary Copacabana. He attended the prestigious Manhattan School of Music as a Piano Major and briefly ended up on what he calls the “concerto competition circuit.” He even found himself searching for a musical identity by dabbling in one-off jazz combos with fellow students and forming his own East Village punk outfit that would play a few gigs at the legendary CBGB’s before disbanding.
Kane subsequently took a break from music to attend film school at N.Y.U. and it wasn’t until he relocated to Los Angeles that he reconnected with his natural affinity. “I drifted around a lot,” he confides, “and kind of fell back into music almost by accident, just as a way of expressing some of the experiences I’d gone through. But once I picked up a guitar, it was like opening the floodgates. The need to write songs had never really gone away. I’d just been storing it up the whole time.”
Once in Los Angeles, a series of homemade demos ensued which landed him a record deal. Work began on his debut album, with breaks for brief rounds of touring. “It took about six months to get it right,” he continues. “The challenge was to try and capture what I knew I wanted but at the same time give the songs room to develop on their own. It was an experiment in controlled evolution.”
The result is nothing less than a musical tour de force from an artist with the skill and vision to actually deliver on his promise of exquisitely crafted pop, passionately performed. Gorgeous melodies, incisive and insightful lyrics and production values that maximize multi-faceted artistry, This Day in History is a compelling debut from a musician, songwriter and performer of extraordinary promise.
